Firmware Cracking Idea

Hey, even tho i mite be new to ZuneBoards, dont you think itd be possible to hack the zune firmware with a hex editor? if someone can help me get a copy of zune firmware in just a file i'll start on it. Ive got a 4GB Zune2, so i think if anyone can get me the firmware and maybe we can make a team and start this F*%&er right!

No, if that were the case, this would have been done over a year ago. You can try modifying the firmware that way, but good luck getting the Zune to use it in 2^80 repetitions (unless you're lucky)

I wish we could get some custom firmware on the Zune. I wouldn't do it unless something really good came out, but it'd be nice to know we aren't under Microsoft's control.

But why can't someone try to decrypt it? Rob(hacker) says it could take months, but can't someone just get a really good PC lying around the house and dedicate it to hacking it?

well even that isnt as simple as it sounds because one would need to make a key generator plus a key tester, and at about 3 tries a second it could take up to a year unless u were lucky
