Yeah, it seems silly, since I'm sure they make almost all of their money from the hardware, not the software.

One of these days though, it'll be opened.

Yes of course MS could release custom firmwares because they have the correct signiture.

I really hope that someone finds a way to crack it soon... It'd just be fun to see what people could do to the Zune if they could make their own firmware for it..

It would be cool, but i don't want linux anywhere near my Zune. I'll round kick it out the window. Hacking the firmware would be nice, though not sure how the device reads the input from the "squircle".

Yeah, the last thing we need is a complicated OS(WIndows or Linux)

Of course... Just a custom modded firwmare wuold be nice if it added cool features
