Ok this is one thing I don't understand. Why do you need a contact list and a clock on a mp3 player? Im not ****ting on the ipod because I like those too but why get rid of the zune because it doesn't keep time?

Its been discused before and its not going to happen
[quote=Kingtut;111257this clock is the reason every one is going back to iPods..[/QUOTE] NO WAY, once you go to zune you dont go back, the reason ipod is doing better is that the ipod users wont give the zune ago (the ones that have thing the zune is better)

Yeah a clock is not going to happen. I read another thread that said the zunes dont have the parts built into them in order for them to keep time.
Thats for ALL zunes.

The zunes do have the necessary hardware to keep time. That is why there was the 3 days or 3 plays rule. I am not sure about the new zunes, but the old ones can definitely keep track of time.
The reason that there can not be a clock is because the zune is very restricted when in comes to hacking. In fact, there is only one real hack for the zune to date. |

Just to clarify, I was talking about hacking the actual firmware on the device, not the software on the computer. Anyway, I still stand by my previous statement of the zunes being able to tell time, just not giving it to the user.

I am going to toss in my half-cent and say, a clock would be awesome, but I already had a watch to look at on my wrist!
![]() Although I do forget my watch on some occasions... That's why I have my Zune, I simply think, why have a Zune to have time when I want to kill time by listening to it! ![]() To say simply, I wouldn't have my Zune any other way. :-) |

If the zune could have a clock to begin with, why wouldn't MS include that function?? It would only help to erase any problems people have in their decision to purchase. I know it's a small thing but some things are just nice to have and are deal-breakers for some.

They must be pretty smart to ridicule a media player because it doesnt have a time telling device.
Tell them to stop filling there head with filthy apple lies and open there eyes to true media player perfection.

what is being said. is that the zune would have to keep track off time whilst it was completely turned off (back and left). for it to do this it would have to have another internal battery. like a watch battery. like a smaller version of what keeps the cmos chip in your computer going. otherwise whenever you turn it off and turn it back on it would still have the same time as when you turned it off.

Spencer is correct, the zune would have to have a built in powersource that never turned off. This could be a battery or even a capacitor, but at least the old zunes do not have either. the backlight can be ran using a counting program, it can start at 0 everytime it starts counting. As for the 3 days rule, i have no idea, it could start counting and whenever the zune is told to shutoff, it could save the last number and continue when the zune is turned on, but then anytime the zune is off its not counting. Maybe thats why they eliminated the 3 days rule?

All Zunes have a Windows CE kernel as their operating system, according to Wikipedia. I have not found the operating system listed in any other place online and retailers are very leery of letting anyone know what it is (or just incredibly ignorant). Unfortunately, I don't know how to hack Windows, much less CE.
Hope this helps.

Having a clock would be nice for times I forget my watch but have my Zune but it's not a horrid thing to not have a clock.
