Can someone PLEASEEE!!! make a hack to stop this following problem:
-With the new software when you sync podcasts, songs, videos, and pictures from your computer to your Zune and then delete the media from your computer, the software detects the deletion and so it takes off whatever you deleted from your Zune. This madness must stop!! I have a limited amount of space on my hard drive as it is...and now the Zune can no longer be hacked to use as a portable hard drive...grr! ![]() |

I have the same problem. I'm also mad to about the zune not being able to be used as a portable hard drive. I thought it was gonna be able to w/o having to be hacked. First time i plugged my zune in when running v2, i lost over 200 songs. I think simple is worse, i loved the old version of the zune software, with being able to edit metadata and album art, creating playlists.

I'm a zoob. I just bought my zune today, and already I'm finding this annoying.
Does anyone know the details of how the sync software works? Do you think it might work to just truncate the file on the PC to 0 bytes? Or is the SW smart enough to compare the size of the file on the PC vs the zune? Also, I see people talking about the old SW. Does that not have the same problem with sync? If so, do you know where I can get it? |

Just got my zune, discovered this issue pretty quickly. Its a pretty big pain, as I bought this thing to store songs on so I don't have to clog up my 20gb laptop drive! Much love to whomever can figure this one out for us, my appreciation for the zune is limited until then.

i have found it deletes albums from my zune when i don't tell ti to and they're still in my library.
i don't have room on my comp for a bunch of movies and stuff, thats why i have 30 gigs on my zune. has anybody tried deleting the files in explorer, but leaving the entry in the zune software? i think that may work. |

if yr zune is "linked" to your pc, this will happen.
if you set up yr zune as "guest" this doesn't happen: http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/zun...-guest-pc.html |

Here's a fix I found on another board:
1. remove all monitored files from the zune software in the Settings menu. 2. Create a non-monitored file on your computer to store your music 3. Drag and drop folders from this file to your collection in the zune software. 4. sync those files to your zune 5. close the zune software, go into your files and delete the music files, but LEAVE THE FOLDERS!!! 6. When you sync your zune again, it will think those files are still on your computer and will not delete them from your zune. |

by the way, this is an old post but i have to update it. from another forum from a while ago, you
1) settings>device>remove this device 2)unplug your zune 3)delete everything you don't want off your computer, from the zune library, my music, etc 4) plug in your zune again and follow the instructions result: nothing removed from your zune!! YAY! ![]() |

weven if there as in-file deletion, u would still need to sync it to completly remove them files from zune via software.
so, i really dont see the need.

actually just made a reply to another post and advised the same thing. It's a little tedious, but it's what you got to do .

I have the same problem.
When the zune gets plugged in it deletes whatever the computer doesnt have. It will also just randomly sync anything the computer just got aswell. Even if i chose "let me choose" in the setting menu it still does whatever it feels it should do. Also, The zune program has no idea what i have for music. It says i dont have like 600 songs when i clearly have over 2000. For example: I have Breaking Benjamins second cd on my zune. and i have their first on the computer. If i put the second cd on the computer from the zune the zune prog never finds it. and i can not put the other cd on the zune either way. ONE MORE PROBLEM! The zune prog has a crap load of songs that i no longer own. It htinks i do and so wont get rid of them, it wont get rid of old songs or find new ones. Its total junk and the worst program ive ever used.
