Hi guys...I am new to this forum but definitely not new to technology and there is a really cool third party software out there (free) that works great for duplicates based off of their tags and you can even tag your music by letting it search Amazon for the correct info. Anyhow the program is called Media Monkey and I absolutely love it. I have tagged all my music then I auto organized it which takes the tags and actually names the files off of the tags. This is the step in which it finds dupes. If it finds a dupe it let's you know so you can either rename the file or just tell it to override the one file. Another nice thing about this program is that if you use the HD hack and zAlternator it will actually let you sync your music without having to use the Zune Software.
I still don't get it, but I'll make something. So what you are looking for is a way to see songs that are duplicates on Artist/Album/Title/(anything else)?
And this is in the Zune library (now called collection)? I can't delete right off the Zune, so you'd have to delete the file from your collection (and probably hard drive so it doesn't get rediscovered), then resync for Zune to remove it from the device.
I'm still scratching my head as to how anyone could have such a disorganized collection that would end up with duplicates.

easy: rampant downloads of massive amounts of music by various artists from sites that offer rips and whatnot, in which case some of the rips could be mis-recognized as duplicates, or zune could make duplicates if it has troubles... anyway, just make a program that relies on the hard drive hack, and warns you to unlock your zune first, then does the fun stuff of checking id3 / meta tags for copies and makes a checkbox list of duplicates that the user can select / deselect for deletion.. then click a button to get rid of them. granted that's a bit of work, but not as hard as it could be.
I manual sync, my music collection exceeds the 30gb cap of my zune by many folds and so i need to be pretty picky with what i put on my zune (some of the music i rather not have on my zune and just play from the pc while i am at home), like stated above some times you have the album and then you have the best of with the same exact song, no need to take up zune real estate with dupes. The zune software in my opinion is garbage. what would have been easier is if they had a delete on the fly right from the zune itself.
I get what he's saying. I had at least 10 of the same exact song, but the funny thing is, it was the song "The Stillborn One" but it had all the tags of "Stabwound". I had to manually go to the HDD to delete the duplicates.

That'd be pretty cool to has. I get that glitch every once in a while: the software messes up and adds the same audio to the library more than once, thus syncing it more than once.
I think this is a really smart idea. Is this gonna be a completed project? or just one of those projects that just sit. because i don't think these projects just ferment in the hard drive like cheese...

when i put songs in the sync list and try to sync it, it says added to already added to device
yes the zune software does automatically remove duplicates, but sometimes it doesnt work. If the same song has a different year, then that does not count as a duplicate
but so far i havent had much problems with duplicate songs, i dont really mind.
I think I heard this problem occurs when the ID tag is messed up or something =P I think it only happens when you pirate music that doesn't have the proper labels
you can look at duplicated songs in, well i forget.. i think its eighter playlist or actually on the device, but you cant delete the actual song from there. the only way is to go through manually to fix the albums, or delete extra songs. yea, yea id use this
