Except that it sounds like the Gen 3 hardware is identical to the Gen 2, except for colors and glossiness. Maybe it would be more appropriate to rename the Gen 2 forums to Gen 2/3.

Gen 1 - Zune 30's, old firmware
Gen 2 - Zune 80's, current, but soon to be old firmware
Gen 3 - Zune 120, upcoming firmware.
Granted, the hardware is pretty much the same, there will be a major software and firmware change. New software + new firmware + semi-new hardware = new section.
But if the Zune 80's will be running the same exact firmware, will there really be a need to separate them? I mean, the only difference is the size of the harddrive and the color-scheme.
Yes. There is a need to seperate them.
By stkr's logic we should have one big giant forum, because the firmware is all the same.
I agree that the 30 and 80 are different. But the 120 and 80 are different. They are going to have different problems.

'By my logic'? . Please, 'one big giant forum' doesn't even make sense. We're obviously excluding first generation devices. If the hardware is the same and they're running the same firmware, then the devices will likely have the same problems. But, this is not something I'm going to keep debating over.
The reason most places list the Zune 120 as Gen 2 is because there is no hardware change whatsoever besides the harddrive. They are running the exact same firmware with the same hardware. We seperated G2 from G1 because the firmware is different and the hardware is different.
Wikipedia agrees with me, and no sites list the generation for the 120 even though I think it did when it first got put up early and it said Gen 2.
The new Zunes and the new firmware are pretty much unrelated. If this were like Gen 2, they'd have been announced and released together. We have 2 Generations of Zune and we're on firmware 3.0

Yes, but the 2nd gen firmware and software and the "3rd gen" firmware and software will be different. I think we should make a subforum under 2nd gen, for the 120's and 2nd gen flash zunes.

By that logic, everyone using v2 of the Zune software/firmware on a Zune 30 should be posting in the Gen 2 forums. Once v3 of the software/firmware is released, the people still using v2 will become a fringe population, especially given how the Zune software practically forces firmware updates on users.
The new Zunes have the same hardware as the previous gen (besides storage). The line can't even be drawn by capacity, as a blue Zune 8 was added.
Whether the new product line can be considered "Gen 3" is debatable, but that concern can be eliminated by renaming the Gen 2 fora to Gen 2/3.

To be honest..
I think that it's just an expansion of generation 2.
I would agree on adding subsections in generation 2 with 120 and the 16. They're not that much different in terms of hardware. Had it been a touchscreen or a new overhaul design like from the 30gb to the 4/8/80, then I can understand.

Is really is not that debatable...
Consider this: Microsoft said that the 3rd generation Zunes will be released in Europe in the fall of 2009. I do not believe that they have announced any changes to that plan. So... Whatever Zunes are first released in Europe should be the 3rd generation Zunes.
