Default how has your religion(or lack) effected your life?

has it made you more caring? more cynical? more open?

mine has made me care more about others and try to see the good in all people.

I try to forgive people more... I don't like to dwell on issues of the past, and I feel more open to talking now.

I feel like no matter what happens there's always going to be something good to come out of it.

I don't feel guilty when I do something bad anymore. I say sorry and I know that everything will be better soon. I used to feel like crap after I did something but now I know that I will be forgiven and move on with life.

I have faith that everything will be better.

(this is because of church, I don't believe in god)

it's nice to see some activity in this forum.

I don't see why your religion should shape you. Anything good you do shouldn't be because of some hope for/fear of divine retribution, but because of your own urge to do good. The way I see it is that charity because of religion is selfishness. The same thing applies elsewhere, you should want to do moral things because it is right, you should be able to judge that by your internal standards, not because of some religious guidelines, however if your beliefs correspond to some religion's guidelines of morality, great.

I think this is why the thread is titles "how has your religion(or lack ) effected your life" instead of "how has religion changed your moral compass" or something along those lines.

anyway, I think I'm a better person because of church, but I don't have to believe in a religion just to go to church right?

if you want to go to church that is great and I encourage it
if you dont thats okay
once again I wont force you to do anything

Most murderers are Christians. I'm not a murderer. I think religion only biases people.

I think my lack of religion has actually made me more open minded. When I was still a christian I had a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea of people not beliveing in the christian god. Be that due to christian teachings or the fact I was fairly young (not in my teens yet) I'm not sure.

Now, though, I can see religion from an outsider's point of view. I see religion as a form of art (the songs, art, and ritual).

That's not a fair statement.

Most christians would argue that if a person was a christian then they wouldn't be a murderer. And most serial killers are athiests (wellhe socipathic ones are, psycopathic ones are a bit hard to classify I'd imagine).

because 70% of America is Christians right? So i can infer from that statement that most murderers(sociopathic or pyschopathic or w/e doesnt matter) are Christian. But most police officers are Christian also, so it probably balances out.

The rest of the world is murder free?

What you said isn't a lie necessarily (but probably is unless limited to certain areas), you just suck at logic.

Honestly, religion gives us nothing more than a reason to say we're different.

To me, Religion might give others hope, something to believe in, and so on, but I believe religion is nothing but a "nice" cult. They tell you many natural things are a sin, and if you do them you are going to hell. They tell you to follow a set of rules, if not you go to hell. Basically, they scare you into following them.

My lack of religion has made me feel free. I'm agnostic, so I am figuring out what I believe, not what others want me to believe. I have seen problems arise from stupid religious disputes more times than I can count. One of my best friends almost lost a friend because of it. Without a religion telling me "DO/DON'T DO THIS OR YOU ARE GOING TO HELL!", I am able to ask myself "Do I believe that this is right?", or "Who says that this is a bad thing?". It has made me become more aware of what I believe, as opposed to the 3/4 of people who claim to be religious, but can't tell you a single thing about what they believe without referring to someone else for their answer.

ever since ive been not religiouse (a couple years now) ive become more ready to challenge the ideas and teachings of others. i have no problem criticizing religion and examining it, or doubting it/god. i feel like ive taken the harder way out, where i have to find happiness and meaning on my own in life as opposed to just taking what im told as truth. ive become very critical of many things as well. i could imagine i might be happier and more enthusiastic if i believed in christianity (my birth religion) but then i feel that that is a flase sense of hope and happiness ...but it works for some ppl and im in no position to say its wrong really...but i still do a lot of time :P
