I don't think he means to piss you off I think he is just trying to say shut the **** up I cont give a ****. If he wants to prove you wrong let him, don't try to stop him. If he finds proof then let him tell you. You as of right now are to closed minded, and if you are really as comfortable as you seem to be with Christianity then his findings should not change anything. There are too many people trying to further prove a theory then there are trying to disprove. Also back to his afterlife comment that was not stupid at all what he was saying is who knows what happens after it could be we rot or we go to a spiritual world. Praying has always left me cold.

Being in church leaves me cold...

I feel so.. lonely when I've tried praying... its not a good feeling. :/

There was everything stupid about your statement, how the hell are you supossed to see the aferlife (whether it's true or not) and be able to come back from the dead and tell people? Answer that. No one would be able to SEE the after life unless they were dead, and if you die and see whether or not the afterlife is real, how would you come back? come on, answer that.

dude, the thread was called "a question for a christian". It's not talking about the afterlife at all. It's talking about prayer. We both got off track so if anyone has to leave, then we both have to leave.

also, you can't prove that there's not an afterlife, which is the same as me not being able to prove that there is,

Just to play Devil's advocate here

Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you're saying as far as there not being an afterlife but to use the "you can't prove it" arguments is a little lame because you can't prove that there isn't an afterlife. Just in the same way you can't prove that there is no God. It's futile on both sides to toss that card onto the table. Besides even science hints at the idea that there may be an afterlife. Perhaps a heaven or hell or something along those lines but that things continue to exist even after their body has stopped working. The first law of thermodynamics states that energy can neither be created or destroyed but can only be converted to another form. All we are in our existence is a collection of energy. Electrical impluses that form thoughts and perform tasks such as typing this post. It's actually more likely that there is an "afterlife" than there not being one at all. It just most likey isn't the Heaven or Hell that we learn about in sermons.

You're right, I can't disprove it, but if you were never exposed to any type of religion in your entire life, you wouldn't believe in an afterlife.

Also, since I'm not a christian, I can't talk about prayer? Since when? I was a christian for 18 years, then I came to the realization there is nothing. It's all about people fearing that when they die nothing happens, so they created the concept of a God who watches what you do and if you live a life of "righteousness" that you will get rewarded to heaven. Everyone expects a reward for everything good thing they do. It's more about self-righteousness than anything else, everyone wants the glory.

okay, so i think we need to stop arguing already, neither one of us can prove or disprove what we're trying to say,

But a thing about Christianity,

Christians don't believe that they get rewarded for the good things they do. You're making it sound like a karma kind of thing. Like "you do good things so that you get good things", it's not like that though, it's more like "you do good things because it's the right thing to do, and you shouldn't expect anything out of it, but if you do get something, then great!"
