Not to put you down you or your religion, but Anton Lavey is an idiot. Some of the things that he has written in the Satanic Bible is so asinine and incredibly stupid that I can't help but critique it. I am mostly referring to the practices and ceremonies that he states in it. Granted, you probably do not follow it directly, but it still strikes me as odd.

My question for you: Why classify yourself as a Satanist and not an Atheist or other similar religion? Why pick Satanism?

I've answered all of this throughout this entire post. I'm not going to reiterate again. I will say that the rituals and what not that he talk about in the Satanic Bible are a little cheezy and cliche. I've stated this before in a previous post in this thread. But he also makes it clear that you don't have to practice rituals and ceremonies in order to be a Satanist. What a lot of people don't realize is the motivation behind a lot of the Satanic rituals/ceremonies. It's not to cast spells or curse people or to summon the devil. They are used as form of emotional release. To get rid of all the negativity that may hold you back from thinking rationally or pursuing what is in your best interest.

I am an Atheist. All Satanists are atheists however, we take a slightly different stance than other atheists. A lot of Atheists have a "live and let live" atitude towards religion. Satanists choose to take on the role of the adversary, to not only accept Atheism (as a concept not as a "religion") but to pose as the opposition to all theistic ideals and to raise question to the idea of a deity. We are the polar opposite of religion.

I would like for you to provide me with specific examples of what exactly in the Satanic Bible is "so asinine and incredibly stupid". I've done this so far with my gripes against Christianity in here. I've provided specific passages and verses for all to reference. I ask that you do the same thing.

Anyone else get the feeling the OP just wants a bit of attention?

Be unique by being yourself, I don't think you need to grab an obscured/misunderstood/etc religion to stand apart. It's easier to be different if you've got people behind you, but that's no fun.

Protip: find another way to differentiate yourself.

First of all, You don't know me so stop pretending to understand my motivation. The purpose behind my post, as I've stated on multiple occasions in this thread was show people something they might not have ever been exposed to. It was to challenge the way people think and the way they perceive things. Not some lame attempt at saying "oh look at how unique I am". I never claimed to be.

Protip: Go f*ck yourself!

After reading through the entirety of this thread (every last post) I am inclined to agree with floor puncher. As A life long atheist myself, it pains me to see the ignorance of most christians who automatically assume that we are wrong and they are right, preventing any sort of mature debate.

However I have a question of my own for you floor puncher, through out the thread you state that the chief goal of life is to preserve ones own life, how do you explain the myriad suicide bombers of the extremist Islamic factions, or the self-immolating buddist monks? Personally I find religion to be a motivator for an individual to sacrifice it's own life. Case in point the crusades many thousands of Christians crossed thousands of treacherous miles to "reclaim" the holy land, and then the Muslims in return. Additionally, there was a commune of jews who took there own lives, and more recently a crazy Christian cult that that committed mass suicide.

I do agree with you, I'm just crossing the t's and dotting the i's so to speak.

I just don't see the point of joining a religion that is for the sole purpose of showing how stupid other religions are. I'm going to agree with you that most religions are intolerant and such. But if you are to believe in no god or whatever, why have a religion at all? It just seems like needless hoops to jump through.

And the way you started the thread irked me. If you have something to say, say it. Don't beat around the bush.

Try to watch your tones, boys and girls.

I can understand religion being a touchy subject to a person because it is part of their beliefs and people usually hold this quite dear (or smack them with a trout).

I am quite lenient up to a point due to this section should be free from censorship as much as possible. Plus discussion shouldn't be restricted but lets keep it on the subject instead of going into a person's psychological state or any other thing that will start leading to aggression.

Well... I'd wonder why you chose that as your religion as I do when anyone tells me what their religion is. And then it'd be... you don't sacrifice any people right?
I mean as long as you don't sacrifice any small animals likes cats or whatever. I mean to kill some small creature and have no remorse... personally I don't see what worshiping all that's evil does for someone. I mean of course all most any person in power is pure evil. But I'd say that I'm wondering how you worshipped... and then I'd ask you if you thought less of me b/c I'm not a satanist...
and that's about it.
And to all... an Aethist believes in nothing... and it's human nature to want to believe in something greater. And the first thing that comes to mind... a pentagram.
Well that's it FP

Suicide bombers? Self-immolating monks? It's a perfect example of the power of religion and how dangerous religion truly can be.

I think you're as handsome as ever... Honestly though, I think that you're a good guy and I think that you are a little more willing to try and understad someone elses point of view before bashing it into oblivion. This is a good characteristic and one that you should continue to nourish.

First of all, the way I started it had nothing to do with you. It wasn't your post and if it "irked you" then move on and keep your mouth shut. End of story. The post was orginiated to spark debate and make people think. I couldn't do that without understanding where people stood on the subject and what people's perception of Satanism was. i didn't beat around the bush, I asked the question that I meant to ask. You just didn't read it correctly and I ask that in the future if you have nothing to contribute shut up, and move on. You coming in here throwing insults around did nothing more than pissing me off. If you want to try and understand someone's opinion or point of view the best way to get that information os to talk to them like a f*cking human being.

To answer your question though. Satanism is more of a philosophy than it is a religion. It's an outlook on life and the way that we percieve and react to the world around us. As far as having an "organization" like the Chruch of Satan, human beings are social creatures by nature. We tend to enjoy the company of people that are like minded. This is a concept that goes back hundreds of thousands of years. The idea of community and socialization is not a concept created by Christians or any other religion.

floorpuncher, deal with opinions you don't like. Conservatives are the ones who go around telling people to shut their mouths.

Unless you're...the same as those you pretend to hate...?

It's not about your opinion, It's about the way you went about expressing it. Even now you come in here not really adding anything to topic at hand but seem persistent in insulting me. My statement was if you do not have anything to contribute to the topic at hand then shut your mouth. It has nothing to do with me disagreeing with your opinion. Almost every person who has posted in this thread has had a opinion or view that conflicts with mine and we've been able to carry on a decent, mature debate until you came along. Doesn't strike you as odd that you're the only person that I've actually gotten pissed off at in this thread?
