Portable Zune(30% Complete)

Portable Zune is where u can fit it on a flash drive or a portable hd. U can sync ur files to ur zune on the go.im about 30% complete. i was able to make it portable on my vmware it works fine. but when i put it on my regular O/S it crashes. Ill reply back here with my progress.

Nice to see someone working on this, the one i started, works just fine, but iw wont let me sync to my zune, so its been a pain in my neck, good luck to you!

I don't know that it's possible with all the registry additions that the zune software has, There is a registry entry for every little thing the Zune software does or sets, if you could make a reg file that you could run on the computer to link to your usb drive it might work, but you would have to install the registry entries on each computer when you wanted to use it.

What about the way Firefox Portable (what I'm on right now) works? I spend a significant deal of my time on a computer that I don't have admin or HD write access to. If I can help in any way (developing, testing, etc.), let me know.

PortableApps.com has a good deal of resources on how to make things "on a stick"...

yea this thing is something i really would like to have since my friend dont want me to install the software onto his computer and i take a flash drive their daily.

I made a scaled-down version of the zune program (as many have), and it all boils down to 2 problems:

1) In order for the zune program to sync to a device, it HAS to be in the directory C:\Program Files\Zune

2) You need to put keys in the registry (which requires admin access)

are you sure you need to be admin to add or change registry keys? at my school i have experimented in hacking those computers to pieces. and I found that batch files are the only things that will work if you do not have access to regedit. you can add or change any registry value with a limited account. so the way out here that i'm thinking of is have the program executable launch the batch file. then that only will leave the problem of it haging to be in C:\program file\ zune. is there some way to maybe make it think its there?
