Long time lurker, first time poster, so hopefully my first post will be a good one. Though I haven't tried this method yet (as my usb drive is at home) I thought I would present this link if anyone wants to give it a go.
mauloofahmed.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-to-make-any-application-portable.html
I've scoured the net relentlessly trying to find anything that can make the Zune app portable (btw Ipod has their own YamIpod) & Lexar & Ceedo claim to make any app portable but currently only with certain Lexar usb drives. downloadsquad.com/2006/01/12/lexar-and-ceedo-make-any-app-portable/
Next to Rockbox I find the portable app as one of my most wanted apps for the Zune.
Also if one could get any other app to sync with the Zune, would that make it any easier to make the app portable?

Even if you could make a third party syncing app portable, you'd have to use the Zune software to unlock it.

Well I tried the method I posted..no luck. I guess I'll just have to wait & see if/when the RockBox will make the Zune somewhat less restricted.

hi. Tried to thinstall this myself, i'm a real noob being my first time trying this app. I did manage to get the zune software loading, but when plugging the zune, windows asks for a driver. So i'm stuck there. I tried using the zune.inf that's included but it installs with an exclamation mark"error in INF". Maybe with some skill and time, someone can get the driver successfully installed and maybe it'll work. Just thought i'd give it a try.

Well if they ever made it able to work with a usb mass drive, it would be so much easier getting this to work. The first step in my opinion is getting the software to be portable, which right now looks almost as if it will need a serious rewrite to be able to do that. MS made it impossible on purpose, so you can't just use a portable zune program and rip all the songs off a different computer.

wel maybe i've got a solution for xp users
i've made a program for hacking the school, called policy modder
basicly what it does is it throws the grouppolicy folder in the temp folder and uses a batch file to execute the command gpupdate /force.
then when i click restore you will never see i've temporarrily deleted the policies because it will put the folder back to where it belongs and again uses the batch file

i think i can make it so that it will only temp the policy for accesing the registry

maybe that will help
