I really don't think this will happen anytime soon, because of drivers.

but drivers are installed when you connect the device for the auto run to work all u need is the USB driver not the zune driver plus it couldn't be too hard to create a .exe for the driver and have it install before the program is run

I'm trying, as I have said in another thread. but we already know that thinstall will not work, and if there are any other virtualization progs out there, I don't know about them. a google search will probably solve that though...

Tried to do a clean sweep using Thinstall trial. Swiped the HDD, reinstalled XP SP2, then installed Thinstall first of all to make sure that nothing else would interfere. First program I tried to Thinstall was Zune.

No joy...

Isn't thinstall owned by Vmware, not MS?

Have you guys tried something like ringcube or mojopac? I think someone was able to make it work with mojopac.

jackluo923 Do you think a thing called mojopac would work for zune portable? This program basically uses the computer as host. It uses some of the core registery and windows component of the host machine. It also contains its own registry for its programs installed inside.

http://www.mojopac.com/enterprise/index.html

http://www.mojopac.com/portal/content/hellomojo.jsp

These two programs carry their own registery. They're abit like vmware where they virtualize part of the operating system and registery.

The zune software must be installed on top of mojopac. Mojopac will create its own "virtualized drive" thus all modified registery will be stored on that drive. The missing files will not be a problem.

Default Kudos for the idea

That's awesome! I hope to get further details as they come in, I have a zune 30GB and I tend to have files on various PCs, and syncing would be so much easier in portable form!

Well I tried this but unfortunately right now the free version does not include support for Windows Vista, so if your home computer is Vista, or the other computer you connect to is a vista, the mojopack software will refuse to run, and you will not be able to run any of the software.

EDIT: I googled free virtualization software and found VirtualBox which is an open source program thats been taken over by Sun Microsystems. It looks prommising and if it does what I think it does, then I'll try the zune program with this. Also, it works with Vista.
