You should try uninstalling the Zune Software Customizer, see if the problem persists, and take action from there.
If the issue still occurs, uninstall and reinstall the software
If it does not occur, try reinstalling the customizer. Maybe your settings messed something up.

hey sable.. I was wondering if you could tell me how I can make it so the background of the device area can be changed again. I made my own background for it when I was doing everything myself, but there's a few things your software did that I didn't know how to do. I realized that now my custom background doesn't get accessed anymore, the background just stays the same.
i'm having a problem. when i have the software customizer installed the zune software shuts down every time i connect my zune. as long as the customizer is uninstalled everything works fine. i can install the customizer, and i can customize the software after doing so. but as soon as i connect my zune with the software installed i get the message "microsoft zune has stopped working."
i am running vista home premium 64.
i would appreciate any help you can give.
There's a very good chance this program doesn't work with the x64 version of Vista. I personally cannot say for sure. I have a thread in the hacks and mods section that tells how to do it yourself, if you really want to modify the theme.
well, what's odd is that it does work, only it creates a strange bug. it shows up fine in the display section under settings, and it allows me to alter the appearance of the software perfectly wll. i used the customizer with no issues for a week, regularly playing music, videos, and podcasts. i only noticed a problem when i went to sync the software with my zune. upon the zune connecting the software stops working.
now, i grant you that such certainly could be described as "not working" with the 64 bit version of zune, but it seems to be an odd bug for something that edits colors and image locations to cause. i have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times all to the same effect. do you have any idea what in the customizer could be causing such an issue?

I didn't see any reason for the device area background to be a custom image to be honest, so it is whatever image your theme is. I'll have to look this weekend.

Just going to address your two posts together. It works on x64 systems (i use x64 vista ultimate at home). I have had no reported crashes on the device screen so I'm not completely sure what is happening in your case so I gotta ask you some preliminary questions.
What version of the Customizer do you have installed? There was a problem in one of the earlier versions that made it crash on the device screen but that was fixed a while ago (version 2.5.0 had the problem it was fixed for 2.5.1). If you goto your Zune program files folder can you find ZuneShellResources.dll, it should be 12.4 MB in size and the version # should be 3.1.620.0
What version of the Zune Software do you have installed?
You said it works fine with the customizer uninstalled right? Can you pm me the ZSCinstall.log file contents?

pm sent.
thanks.
NOTICE:
i am now connecting fine. i have no idea what changed. i tried installing and uninstalling several times yesterday, and it never had any effect. now it's fine. i find that odd, but it is a good odd.
thanks for the time, and thank you sableholic for your work on this. i very much appreciate it, and i am certain i am hardly alone here.

What version of the Zune Software itself, 3.1 right? The other dll files in that folder have the same version # right?
If so hmm, I'll have to take a look. Maybe the installer you downloaded got corrupted somehow? I might have to pm you for some more information.

Nevermind, very strange but glad it is working fine now.
I downloaded it, followed all the directions, and I got a black window saying 'Access Denied' about 10 times. I then restarted the Zune software and nothing changes under Settings/display.
What did I do wrong? ^^;
I am getting the same problem on my vista ult x86 on a brand new pc. I will try what he did and get back to you.
OK: Problem Fixed
Steps I took to get it fixed.
1. I unstalled both the zune 3.1 and zunecustomizer 3.1.1.
2. reboot after both software are uninstalled.
3. Downloaded zune 3.1 from Microsoft website ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en ) then installed it.
4.reboot again after installing zune 3.1
5.Sign in to your zune software and connect your zune. Then disconnect your zune or undock it.
6.reboot
7.download zunecustomize 3.1.1 ( http://www.mjefferson.net/projects/#zsc_download use the button download.)
8.install the zunecustomizer 3.1.1.
9. reboot again.
10.Now it should work.
Thats how I fixed mine when I tried connecting or docking my zune and the zune software crashed.
i know the new software just came out, and i am in no way looking to rush anyone. but, since i'm curious, i wanted to ask if there was any idea if a new customizer would be put out for the new 4.0 software.
thanks.

The author of this program (sableholic) said he has no plans to update this any time soon. He mentioned passing his code on to someone else who would know how to update it to 4.0 so if there's anyone interested let me know... or just PM him.
