I've got this to work. Zune 3.0.352.0 released 9/16/2008 on Windows XP Professional x64. There's several lengthy guides floating around the internet. After digging through them, I've got enough pieced together to reliably install Zune 3.0 on an XP x64 system.
I've developed an install package that installs the necessary files, registers the right DLLs, installs the device driver, adds registry information, etc. but it's about 90 MB so before I go put it out on the internet, I'm looking for some guinea pigs to test it for me.
Send me a private message if you'd like a copy. No guarantees it will work or that I'll send it to you (I'm a little concerned I'll get flooded here). If it's a success, I'll post again with a download link.
Right now with available free downloads so far I've been able to see it on explorer and delete stuff - but not create a new folder or copy anything to it.

please people use common sense, if he supplies you a hack-great
but he only has one post I don't mean to break your optimism but this claim should logically be descreditted
The install worked for about half the people I sent it to -- the other half, it didn't. I never use my Zune anymore (and have a Vista installation I can use now anyway) and the update method I used won't work for Zune 3.1, so it's pointless on top of all that.
I get roughly a dozen or so e-mails a week to my Yahoo! of people asking for the patch to this day, so I'm going to take down all of my posts. I don't have the time or interest in hacking the 3.1 version to work under Win XP x64.
Sorry, guys.
If you really want my installer anyway, here it is: It's a 90 MB download and if my hosting gets flooded, I may move it to a RapidShare or something. This download comes with no warranty or support -- if it gets you going in the right direction, wonderful, but if not -- you may need to refer to my instructions below or look for help elsewhere. Either way, I'm not supporting it.
Here are my personal notes for what my installer does, if someone wants to follow in my footsteps. This information was collected from several random websites and my own trial-and-error. Hope it's helpful...

Wait, so the Zune software doesn't natively work on Win64 bit? MS, you need to have better support with your HIGHER END products.
Well, this is another discouragement for gettting a 64-bit OS.

XP. Not Vista. XP x64 was always left behind by MS. Vista, on the other hand, has a well-supported and overall great 64-bit variant. And the Zune software works just fine on it.
Come to think of it, not much does work in XP x64.
