Yeah i try Anyway So long as we make ours better than theirs we are ok. Plus if zsk files are zskin specific than we have two entirely different programs

What I told him was that I would recommend him to the Admins (you guys) and that you would get back to him

We can't tell him that we won't let him on because we don't trust him because he might leave, and he's a good guy, he knows his stuff.

Heres something interesting Pity discovered it a day before zuney did , technically we have a right to it but they already put it an open forum :'( :-\

As far Zskin goes just configure uaktags zuneliberator installer to do that it just switches the dlls (i think)

Technically the first version of the .zsk files are quite easily converted to a .dll. Soon though, the files will shrink a great deal and will be far harder to convert into the usable .dll without zSkin.

It's pity's mod you can find in hack and mods forum, uak tags built an installer that just swaps the modified zuneliberator dll aka zuneloc same one as your using (at least im prety sure thats how it works )

Im no program but just make an option to adjust input and the work should already be done for you but you would need some way for it not to overite other modified parts off the dll i.e. when i installed pity's mod it wiped out my zune skin and turned it back to stock, that part may be more complicated ;D

Later .zsk formats will only include the changes made by the creator of the skin; however, that file will be made from an actual skinner gui interface I intend to make when I have time.

Of course I seem to never have any time, so it might not get made until it's past it's prime.

I hope to have zSkin available soon. I should probably worry less about gui and looks and more about just functionality.

Berdon, you do know what bitmaps you need to replace in ZuneLoc.dll right?

44035 = Zune Bottom
44036 = Zune Left
44037 = Zune Right
44038 = Zune Top

Can you make the skin bitmaps and put them in a disguised .res file that will update the .dll? Then you don't have to convert the whole thing.

Not that I think your going about it the wrong way, I'm just stupid and tend to over-simplify things Is that even possible?

Oh! Hows about this: I could get the individual .res files for the different skins (there would be 6 in all) and save them in a folder, then zip the folder, and then change the file extension? Would that be a bit easier to program an installer for?

That's what I've been working on doing. Apparently, manipulating stored resources in a .dll isn't as easy as it should be. Infact, I've made no progress at all in even learning how it's done.

yea, i can change ZuneLiberated so u can select the file u wish to swap out, if all we're doing here is swaping the newly created Zuneloc.dll....

great can u make it zskin compatible so we can use berdons program too? Or are you going to make your own file extension? Or are you just going to let it swap the raw dlls?

;D

well right now..i got this idea...it allows u to JUST swap the raw .dlls....if maybe brendon wants to work wit me, i could probably help with the converter program to convert his files into the raws needed....right now. You click Add Skins (the skinned zuneloc.dlls u have.. i know i have 3 of my own from myself and 2 others)it can be named blue.dll red.dll alongasseffingname.dll... and it adds it to a listbox...then u select which one u want to use, and click Apply Skin. It will then save your original zuneloc to a backup file, and then apply the skin by namin it to zuneloc.dll.
about to upload the program to projects.uaktechnology.com/applier.zip
ps...this program is not done...u can try it...just beware that i dont think the backup feature is 100% yet..fixing it now...but take a look nonetheless

UPDATE: Ok, got the backup feature working...im prolly going to fix the look of the program, for release this release is just for you guys to tell me if this is what u wnated.

Excellent!!!, exactly what i meant

Dear Admins, now is this stable enough for a release, or does it still require more knowledge than the average zuner has?

I could probably write a tutorial if need be

Okay, here's a proposal:

Due to the amazing amounts of new hacks involving the ZuneLoc.dll, and the fact that berdon is going to be gone for a while, and competition from Zuney, why don't we release 3 versions (3 skins) of the Zune: Liberated hack for people to try out and to credit ZuneBoards with being the first to supply custom skins?

We could make it well known that the skins in the Zune: Liberated hack were "Beta" versions and that we have more skins and a skinning tool coming out soon.

The best part is, we wouldn't have to give any information about how we changed the skins, so Zuney couldn't steal it ;D Makes sense to me

What do you guys think?

Oops :-[ My bad. I didn't read your guys posts

Looks like you got it under control ;D The sooner we release this, the better

right me a tutorial..i'll work on an Interface a bit more prettier, maybe even a save feature to archieve all the skins (so that you can just load up the program and quickly select what skin u want becuz it'd be already listed from the last time) oh the possibilities if only i could talk to berdon about this....maybe find a way to set a thumbnail feature, a way to search the computer for all zskin extenstions...ya kno..i can see this workin out great as a lil program.

UPDATE: i cant type fast enough....well everyone pretty much knows how to change the zuneloc...but if we're the first to release our program before anyone else...then i think we can easily win the race......ps..wouldn't it be awesome if we could encrypt our .dll so that only our programs, Zune software, and anything we set for it can run it.......but nothing else....like if they open it with resource hacker, itd fail for them...but we'd have the original, and the one we release is only accessible by zune software, not by resource hackers....

Sounds friggin' sweet ;D If you need images for the thumbnails, you can use the ones I posted on the thread before. Other than that, I can't be of much help here, apart from being a cheerleader...

GO TEAM!!!

Anyway, yeah, I do hate politics, but I hate it even more when some jerk rips off a bunch of guys hard work and gives them no credit. We have to get this out there before that happens
