Thanks for these ideas both TraJik and jackluo.. I just learned the hard way that when the zune software updated to the monstrosity it is now, files I deleted from my computer were automatically removed from my zune when I plugged it in. This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Why require users to have an extra copy of the file on their HDs in order to keep it on their zune? Sometimes I wonder wtf is going on in developer's heads.
/rant off
Thanks again.. gonna give these tricks a try, these boards are great

Well... there are lots of users who like to keep their media on their computer as the base station and use the zune as a "portable media player". It's probably also called PMP because of that.

I would've definetly kept the music and movies on my hdd if i didn't have a 6 year old computer in front of me.

You know, I feel the best solution to this would be a feature added to the Zune application that added a "protection selection" to each video file or mp3/artist/album, etc. that, when checked, forced the file to stay on the Zune, even if not present on the PC. Anything unchecked may be deleted if unwanted from the source computer during syncing. I think that a feature like that may make everyone a little happier. Till then, these temp solutions will have to do.

That's actually not a bad idea, maybe get Microsoft in on this idea?

Haha, I would love to, but I wouldn't even know where to start. There's plenty of great features that we would all love to see added to the hugely potential Zune, it's just a matter of getting them all organized and then talking to Microsoft.

Mind you, this may be a very easy feature to add with just an update or patch to the Zune software... I'm sure it could all be controlled through the application and not through the Zune itself, after all, it's the Zune program that selects what stays and what goes on the Zune anyways.

Hahaha, I have fixed my lack of space issue now. I purchased a new laptop with a 200 GB harddrive in it. That should give me plenty of space to store my Zune files on, haha.

you guys.....lol. I've encountered this SOOOO many times in the other tech forums.

Just be a guest on your computer. You get the same rights as being the actual proper owner on your computer, and the computer NEVER deletes off your zune. much easier :]

Being a guest on your computer allows you to make everything manual.
It also allows you to turn off auto-sync.

in order to become a guest on your computer again, download the
ZuneMediaCollectionResetTool
Google it, and you'll find it :]

doesn't being a guest on the Zune software disable the use of the wireless syncing though?
