Any progress about using .avi filetypes on zune 2.x firmware?
Hey all. I'm just wondering if anyone's made any headway in the dept. of putting avi files straight onto the zune 30 with the new 2.x software. also, and this might be for another topic, and if it is I'll edit it out of here, but if I get a new zune 80, can I still downgrade the software to 1.x? Thanks!!!

No, the firmware cannot be hacked at this point.
The 1.x software only works for the Zune 30.

No, there is no news on putting avi files on Zune v2 at this point. Maybe a hack will unlock this in the future.

Whats preventing opening up the zune for more video types? Does the new software prohibit in a way 1.X versions did not?

You could try the Hd hack. Just drag the .avi file onto the zune.

Can someone explain in very simple terms why it can't be hacked yet?

I think its got something to do with the hardware hence why the Zune80 supports mp4 and the Zune30 doesn't.

It's a joke. It certainly works, but zune will not play it.

You are wrong, the zune SOFTWARE supports wmv and mp4 but the zune30 ONLY supports .wmv all .mp4's are converted to wmv.

maybe its because the zune doesnt have the program to play or read avi files so it will never play them.

Actually, I am pretty sure that it is at a hardware level that the Zune can not play .avi files.

Oh BS. The Zune can play .AVI, M$ just hasn't given it the functionality yet.

Then why does it need to convert .mp4 files? By logic, it should not need to convert them, but it still does.

I wonder if it intenially converts to get rid of any flawed (or hackd) files before they get on zune.
