I have tried to use AVS Video Converter and Cucsoft Video Converter, and I have had the same problem with both. When they convert a video (xvid) to MP4, it makes the aspect ratio 4:3 (1.33:1) automatically. I am trying to convert a widescreen copy of Robin Hood Men in Tights which apparently has a 1.83:1 aspect ratio.

Hrm, are you sure there are no options on fixing this?

I dont think so. It seems like the Zune tries to stretch all videos to fill the full screen as opposed to leaving the "black bars".

Hmm, the fact that it's widescreen completely slipped my mind. I don't think there's an option to change aspect ratio, at least not in AVS.

*sigh* AVS is pissing me off lol. i just converted a movie to MP4 and solved the aspect ratio problem by entering my own resolution. Now, Zune software won't sync the file without converting it.... AGAIN! I guess it's converting it to WMV or something. I wonder if I could just put the original Xvid file in my sync folder and have it convert automatically without having to use 3rd party programs. hmm...

Have you tried this program? And is the problem occurring when you sync with the Zune or with the software you are using?

It was with the software. and i figured it out. well, i figured it out for WMV files. i have not got the Zune to sync a MP4 video yet. it always tries to convert it to WMV.
Basically, determine the aspect ratio of the source video using Gspot. eg: 1.89:1 was the aspect ratio for Robin Hood Men in Tights. Use a calculator and divide 320 by 1.98. 320/1.89=169. Therefore, the output resolution should be set at 320x169 to maintain aspect ratio. None of the programs out there do this automatically apparently. Every one I tried wants to convert it to 320x240 to fill the full screen of the Zune. I used the following settings to get a pretty good copy of Ice Age 2 formatted to Zune, and it worked excellantly. Video Codec: Windows Media Video 9 Framerate: 24 Audio Codec: WMA 9.2 Audio Format: 128kbps, 44khz, stereo CBR Width: 320 Height: 169 Has anyone successfully converted a video to MPEG-4 and got it to sync to the Zune without re-encoding to WMV?

Damn. Sounds like I wasted a hell of a lot of time converting and uploading those videos.

I haven't tried to get these Simpson's episodes on yet. Did you even get them synchronized, Putis?

It's because you have to calculate the right resolution. I don't know what the maximum resolution the Zune will accept, but it can only display up to 320x240. And yes I watch lost too =].
So far I have converted Robin Hood Men in Tights, Ice Age 2, Beerfest, and Bill and Ted's Most Excellent Adventure.
