Paul Newman - RIP
Paul Newman, famous actor and race car owner, died on Friday at the age of 83 after battling cancer. Ol' Blue Eyes starred in such movies as "The Hustler," "Cool Hand Luke," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Sting," and "The Color of Money."
Mr. Newman was also co-owner of Newman-Haas Racing, now Newman-Haas-Lanigan Racing. The team has won the IRL championship eight times in fifteen years.
One of Mr. Newman's passions was driving race cars. Newman was an active driver (at age 70) on the team that won the IMSA GTS class at the 1995 24-Hours of Daytona. On August 13th this year, Lime Rock, a race track near his home in Connecticut, closed for a few hours to allow him to drive around the track alone.
Paul Newman is also famous for his Newman's Own brand of salad dressings. All of the proceeds from the brand are donated to various charities. Fortunately, Newman's Own will continue on.
If you haven't seen any of the movies listed above, or any other movie starring Paul Newman, you need to go out and rent them.
RIP, Paul Newman. We've lost a great actor, a great car owner, and an awesome motorsports spokesperson. You'll be missed.
