A sad day

Something sad has happened my friends. Finally, after many months and a whole lot of gigabytes uploading (32.5 to be exact), Filefront became wise to my scheme, the bastards.

Just checked my email, and I had 2 emails from them. It's actually quite funny, the first email was very short and basic, and the second one was nice and long.

Email 1:

Your account has been locked, because it contained illegal content.

Email 2:

Some or all of the file(s) you uploaded to FileFront has been deleted.

The file(s) contained illegal content or were copyrighted and
distributed without the
permission of the owner(s). Owners may pursue action against you for
the illegal distribution of their creation. Law enforcement agencies
will be pursing distributors of illegal
content.

The file(s) were uploaded in violation of our Acceptable Use Policy and
Terms of Service. Our policy states you as the uploader are
responsible for your actions and will
defend FileFront and anyone associated with FileFront against all
claims made.

FileFront has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY and FileFront will vehemently
record and forward any and all
information to help law enforcement agencies investigate and prosecute
those who willingly upload and/or download these files to/from our
site.

Additionally, FileFront reserves to
right to ban you from use of the file storage system or take any other
action it deems necessary.

FileFront's free file storage was conceived and offered solely for
gamers to store
LEGAL gaming files and information for their use and for distribution,
if desired.




So ya, everything that I had uploaded was vaporized. All 30gb. The threads with those things have already been moved to the trash, and that's all there is to it. I'm sorry everyone, I'll be looking for a new site to upload stuff too, but it may be a while before I find a good one.

I will NOT be re-uploading what was lost. There's no way in hell I'm doing the Simpsons again. I may re-do ATHF.

It's ok. I guess it's been a long time coming. I think that during the Christmas break they had enough time to go and look through everything, and they realized I had 30 gb of 'illegal' stuff.

Funny thing is, my account is still active and everything, I can even still upload stuff.

Filefront (and the like) are usually pretty damn slow to react to "illegal" content.
I imagine someone reported you or you got some serious traffic on the files.

Next time you upload things of that "nature" you should try torrents.

Regardless of what's happened just remember that you must have a made a significant amount of people happy

Naw. Next time, you should give the file 'codenames' so they have no idea what it is. For example, you can rename "Simpsons" into "YellowArtattheMuseum." I'm 99% sure they would never check that...

edit: also, you can add the video file to an archve (.zip) so they don't even know if its a media file.

Same has happened to me before, they wont send any information to authorities, I'm sure they're required to say that by law, haha.

But yes I would definitely suggest using .zip or .rar files, possibly with archive passwords.

Aw man, that sucks Putis. Hopefully you don't get fined for putting those things on the web, I'm sure they have logged your IP and stuff and can track you down. Also, thanks for the many uploads of TV and Movies to the site, I'm sure everyone really appreciates it.

Ya, it sucks. Fortunately, I only uploaded at work because my internet here at home is too crappy. So I think they'd have a little trouble tracking the IP, and even if/when they did that, it technically could have been anyone there, since the computers that are available to students are not restricted at all.

But, like Xp_12 said, I think that's just something they're required to do/say. I'm not worried at all, just a little sad that all that time and effort was lost.

You would be surprised how hard it is to track someone by public IP. Especially in a work/school environment.

LOL don't worry at all. Remember back in the day when internet companies were jumping on people for sharing music? Well that is the same format letter they used. Don't worry about it. Its a scare tactic Don't worry.

The best method of distribution is not filefront or torrents. I highly recommend Binary Newsgroups aka Usenet. It may require a few dollars a month investment, but the Download transfer rates are worth it Not that I would ever encourage distribution of copyrighted materials.
