What are the best types of files to view in the Reader? I loaded up a WordPad file (quick notes), and everything looked crazy. It looked almost like HTML code, showing a wall of text with formating tags and whatnot. So does this only work correctly with Adobe Reader files?

There is only one type. You would know if you read the instructions. Plain text file means plain text file. If you do not know what a plain text file is, Google will help you with that.

You probably used an RTF file, which is the WordPad default. Open it up and convert it to plain text, then redeploy.

Thanks for your assistance bigtruck. Very helpful, indeed.
Edit: I went into it knowing that it only worked with plain text, but I never quite understood the difference between rich text and just plain text. I assumed they were in the same 'class' of text file, if you will.

Google a book name .txt and just wander thought the sites in hopes of a txt file.
If that doesn't work, go for .pdf. And use adobe to convert it to .txt.
I'm having trouble getting this one to work in the book reader.. I may have converted it wrong, but as of now, it's a Unicode .txt file.
It didn't work in ANSI either, but I've got plenty of Unicode books on here that work perfectly.
Here's the book: John Dies at The End.txt
It's John Dies at the End if anyones interested in downloading it all instead of reading it online. Thanks for the help in advance, friends.
one more thing: it totally kills my text files when I use the bookmark features, and just restarts the Zune when I try to load it :|

I will investigate it this week. I never have problems with the bookmarks, but I will be rewriting the bookmark code to use binary data instead of text, since it is more efficient.

That is a RIG error, and should not have anything to do with your books. Try putting all of your books in the same folder (with no subfolders) and see if it still gives your that error.

Yes, notepad will work, HOWEVER to get the formatting correct. Use wordpad. It will save the formatting of new paragraphs.
WordPad seems to always format the new lines/paragraphs correctly. Notepad just uses whatever it was given to it. When using WordPad, make sure you save the text as a plain text file (.txt), otherwise it will be unreadable in the Book Reader.

Ok, so I'm getting the same error meesage as BrookMusik...
It starts deploying, and then stops and gives the error message
"Error during method invoke [exception from fault code -2]"
All of my .txt files are in one folder.
Is there anyway I could get the non-rig version to see if that works? Thanks.

That's really strange. All error messages that contain "exception from fault code" are coming directly from the Zune, and usually they're less generic than that.
If you haven't already retried or switched USB ports, I'd recommend trying that first. If that doesn't work, try creating a new directory and putting a single text file in it, then pointing RIG to that directory instead. If that works, transfer your files in one by one and see what triggers the error.
