this is awesome, i did have a problem deploying it though, you may have fixed the bug or something but i got the error message "execption is mentiond but is not defined" so i just went in and deleted the execption hope that was okay with you, but it works great now. thanks
(oh yea, and im kinda new at this forum thing so if anyone can tell me what "+rep" means, id appreachiate it alot. lol
Cool, it works.. Well, some suggestions that youve probly heard b4, maybe dont do qwerty keyboard cause it doesnt work. It would be easier if it was abcdef and so on. (and all the letters if possible) <grin> I have'nt tested with other zune (in fact I never got my zune within a mile radius of another.. ever, so i havent tried wireless ever either lol). K if you fix that it would be awsome. Thanks to much and props! pce
EDIT: if i were you, i would increase the amount of text that you can type, because you cant even type "how is it going" and how are people supposed to communicate with like 10 letters or less......

Its a good start but needs a lot of improvement:
Ability to type more characters (more than 19 or 10 or whatever)
a smaller-sized keyboard
Possibly horizontal mode rather than vertical
A button to exit
Easier access to a space button (play?, and hold play to send?)

I admittedly was lazy with the interface part. I just threw on a keyboard, at first I was gonna have it like a cell phone, but I realized I could fit in the whole keyboard and threw it in half-hazardly.
The problem with horizontal is that the screen can only hold like 2 messages.
The text limit is because I don't have word-wrapping. It's a little over the number of letters needed to pass the side of the screen (assuming wide letters) It was 19 - the length of your game tag but I increased it to like 25-the length of your gamertag.
Yeah, the press for space and hold play to send sounds good.
I'll keep working on it, maybe add some smilies eventually.
Problem is I suck with graphics so all my games/apps come out ugly ;p
I haven't seen another Zune and I doubt I will but it's nice to have an app like this. I did change the keyboard to go A, B, C...but besides that I like the program a lot!
Edit...also just realized a delete/backspace key would help
Lets use this application together or pretend to, just me and you then cause we both know that 1 is the loneliest number.
why dont you ask the creator of Galactic Wars 3 if you could use his keyboard/keypad? It looks fine and works very well...or if you dont want to do that specifically, (you said you suck at graphics, ask the creator of BLACKOUT for the little squares (preferably when the light it out so the button is black.) and place letters in the middle of the square.
Ideas:
space bar: on the keypad or some external button (as said before: play to space, hold play to send)
Main Menu: should Include: INBOX (received texts), SENT (self-explanatory) OPTIONS, EXIT
Inbox: From main menu-select inbox and press center button. There should be a number in parenthesis to let you know how many messages are in the inbox and another number beside that one to let you know if there are any new texts
Sent: saved sent messages for resending or just viewing some old texts
Options: Music, music volume, Music chooser, delete message, delete all messages, etc.
Exit, exit texter
and for the texting screen:
needs backspace
For conversation screen:
also, if you wanted to we could text via inbox and sent boxes, or do it like yahoo instant messenger and type in a message and hit the send button (or hold play) then it will switch to a message log screen where the real conversation is between two parties.
Zune Names to clerify who sent what message
can I also suggest using the zune sideways for this or have a portrait/landscape option for this? And also, I know you said that you threw this together haphazardly, but can we text more that just a few characters? just some ideas......
but thank you for actually doing this, AMAZING!!!
i was just thinking about how you could make this better, and i came up with an idea. I think this would work best in landscape mode, and the whole screen is the chat room, except for a little bar at the bottom that says "type a message" or something like that. then, once you press the center button, a keyboard that takes up most of the screen pops up, allowing only a few messages to be displayed. once you send the message, the keyboard vanishes. What do you guys think???
Not directly relates to above:
does anyone know if XNA supports ".png" files, because it would be cool if you could have semi transparent images.

It's a good Idea but it sounds like it could be a little bit challenging to program.
And yes I belive you can use PNG
To me this seems completely useless.
Not to bag on you, it's nice that someone finally made it and people can stop whining. But if you're within 50 feet of the person just talk to them/text them on your phone.

But what if (like in our school) You allowed to listen to music but not allowed to text?
And the person can be in a room near you. Not just your same room. =D
I think this is great.
But a touch feature for fast typing would be great. (although hard to program...)
