I love heavy metal music, but the genre is filled with elitist fans. That being said, I tend to avoid contact with other metal fans, cause I don't wish to get into pitiful internet feuds.
Some bands I like are The Sword, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Children of Bodom, Morbid Angel, Death, Weedeater, Neurosis, Mastodon, Pentagram, Watain, Electric Wizard, Witchfinder General, Immortal, Fireball Ministry, I've been into a lot of doomy stuff lately. I also like others kinds music besides metal.

For instance, some people don't like "nu-metal" bands like Korn, Slipknot, and label them as "false metal". It goes much further then that but it would take hours to give all the possible elitist "fan-types".
A good place to encounter elitist metal fans is Last.fm, its infested.

well, I know that slipknot and Korn are metal, but I don't like it at all, i mean, maybe like one or two songs, but it's not really metal.
metal is like....As I Lay Dying, and The Chariot, but Black Sabbath and them can qualify too, just as old school metal. Am i an elitist?

However, when I think of metal As I Lay Dying and The Chariot are not the first bands to come to mind. Usually Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth. Granted metalcore is metal influenced but compared to the bands mentioned above theres no contest as far as them being heavy metal bands (no one can debate whether or not that they are) and all of them are pretty much classic bands. I like metalcore (Lamb of God, Horse the Band, Bullet For My Valentine) but a lot of the bands sound very similar and it gets tiring. Metalcore bands are another group that is looked down upon by many elitist metal fans.

I think I may like metalcore more than I like metal. I don't know. I like them both a lot. but, that's what I like. Which do you like more?

Korn and Slipknot aren't metal. There's different kind of metal through the decade, what that guy is talking about would now probably be called like heavy metal or mall metal now. It's not as upbeat as most current metal is.

Am i alone? Don't you think it's a little ridiculous to say; "Slayer isn't metal, they're thrash"? It's stupid. I mean if you really wanted to get technical about it all, you could go so far as to say that Iron Maiden isn't Metal because they brought a punk influence into their music and seemed to ditch a lot of the blues influences that bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and UFO used as the foundation for the majority of their early song writing.

I agree, I'm going to do the same, but as far as labeling bands and it becoming tiresome and pointless, I can see what you're saying, but I know that I come up with those genres as well, such as Death metal and Speed Metal and what not,

Everything has to be categorized as specific as possible in reality.
It's just like Kingdom, Genus, Family, Order, Species, etc. Everything has a category, and it can be specified down.
