Default Are you a fan of any unpopular bands or artist?

Are you or have you ever been a fan of any band or artist who your friends listened to and criticized?

For me it's a lot of stuff from the 60's and 70's like Herman's Hermits and similar bands. Or John Reuben, my friends don't like him, but I just like his great message and the tunes are pretty good too.

I say "My favorite band is Green Day", and people say I'm gay... I totally love it. It seems like people want to get on the "OMG TEHIR SELOUTS1" bandwagon, when 3/4 of the people who say it have never heard another song by them, other than the (Pretty damn good) songs off of American Idiot. Ever heard of "Waiting", "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)", "Basket Case", "Longview", or "Warning"? Some of the most popular songs ever, yet most don't even know that they sing it.

It pisses me off that people say "American Idiot sucks" or even "Green Day sucks".... They really don't deserve that. Their lyrics are better than any recent artist, the beats are much more memorable than something like Soulja Boy and that crap, and most of all: their songs have meaning! Jesus. Every popular artist nowadays talks about nothing but Sex, Drugs, Violence, Cadillacs, and Rolex's.

What ever happened to the good ol' days when singing about Masturbation and the girl you love was okay?

Nobody really sings about love anymore, not true love anyway, they pay attention only to the physical. That's why girls feel they gootta be so cheap nowadays, most chicks in the music industry who get a lot of attention are pretty F*cking dumb and only sing about taking off their clothes. Or they sing something about missing someone, jeez I get tired of it. Whenever my little bro turns on a top 40 station I tell him he better turn the freaking thing off or turn the station.

The thing I hate most is that the things that often get most popular are the "songs" (if you can call them that) that are only repetitive words about how the artist is better than everyone.

Exactly. Most of these "Artists" have never touched an instrument in their lives and do nothing but talk about "Bitches, Ho's, and Cadillacs". My "rap" titled "Bitches, Ho's, and Cadillacs" was titled as such because of the fact that those seem to be the only things that go into these songs that people seem to like so much.

I think Billie Joe (Lead singer/Guitarist for Green Day) said it best in their Concert DVD, Bullet in a Bible: "...You can't say 'Oh, this is a catchy number', or 'Oh god, I'd love to dance to this song'... It's about all of the emotional baggage that you come with and you finally have an outlet for..."
That's why I love Green Day so much... Their songs take time to write. They don't put out two albums a year, and all of their songs have a deep, hidden message written into the lyrics. Green Day has single-handedly made me appreciate music for what it is, and has made me want to become a better person because of it.

All reasons why I can't stand Hawk Nelson, he says he's a Christian artist just to get into different church conventions and stuff. But the same songs he sings at a concert can be reinterpreted into anything, they have no substance, and are often repetitive.

I do miss the music of the 60s and 70s. They had genuine value. Lyrics and music, not always the same "i'm depressed, here's a depressing song to acoustic guitar chords played over and over" kind of music that peope go crazy over. (I'm looking at you Plain White T's and your "Hello Delilah".

Songs? Substance? Can those words even be used in a sentence together without "do not have" in between them? "Songs" have changed from being lyrics expressed in a way that is both enjoyable for the ears and the mind, to being "What three words can I repeat that can be remixed four different times into different dance mixes?". It's sad really. I haven't picked up some random artist who looks good in a very long while, because I am afraid that without knowing the artists previously, it will end up being another "It's your birthday" type song.

Remixes piss me off, they get everyone worked up about a crappy remake of an often cruddy song.

I love 70's and 80's music, and I'm also a big fan of the indie scene. I think its really easy to say, "Today's music sucks," but you've got to dig deeper than just the Top 40 radio station that plays the same songs over and over again. I found out about matt pond PA from a friend and they're my new favorite band. Probably 99% of you guys have never even heard of them...

If you are sick of the music you hear on the radio all the time, look somewhere else! There are so many artists out there who are desperately trying to make themselves known. Check out last.fm or pandora, theres so much music to discover out there

Yeah, though they criticize it because I'm fat.

Nothingface (alternative metal) and Diary of Dreams (gothic). My two favorite bands. Nothingface is HEAVILY underrated, with people calling them emo without listening to the damn music.

DoD.. Don't really know anyone in the community so... I don't know if they are underrated or not, but they have a lot of attention.

For the record.
Green Day is the Sh*t.

Every one who says they suck only say that because they only know them as the band that sang "American Idiot".
But people like me who went out and bought the Dookie album when it first came out
Love's Green Day and probably always will.
St. Jimmy is a great song too.

Anyways.
It doesn't matter how well known they are to me.
Or what they sing about, how they sing it, or who sings it.
If I can listen to it and just drift away and just enjoy it.
Then I'll probably like them.

One of my new favorite bands is The Maine.
A lot of people don't know who they are.
And if they did they probably wouldn't like them
And would call me a fag for liking them.
The fact is they remind me of Say Anything.
And I love Say Anything.
They sing about everything that nobody seems to sing about anymore.
And when they do sing about what everyone else is singing about
They kinda point and make fun of it.

How The Maine really grabbed my attention though
Was they took a rap song that was really hot at the time and kinda still is
And gave it a rock sound and kinda made it sound like one of those up-beat love songs.
btw the rap song they redid is "I wanna Love You" by Akon ft. Snoop Dogg

I also like other bands like:
Reel Big Fish
Pennywise
guided by voices

So I am definetly for the unpopular bands.
No matter what anyone thinks of them.
If I like them then thats all that seems to matter.

And if you wanna check them out.

Say Anything=
