Thumbs down Why is it so many movies lack originality

Seriously they are only making movies that are

1. Remakes of other movies in the past

2. based off books

3. based off a t.v. show

4. based on a video game and ruined the original plot *cough cough*doom*cough cough*

they need to make a totally original movie like maybe three 10 year olds that live in a town infested with zombies and they have to work together to survive. i dont know. but the movies kinda suck but coraline was good

I agree that most movies do suck now. There are still some that are really good. Here is a list of some of the ones that I saw that I thought were great and original:
Coraline, Monsters vs. Alien, Get Smart, Wall-E, Bolt. The trailers for Up! and 9 look really good as well.

I suppose movies generally suck because people are generally getting lazier and less intelligent, so their expectations are decreasing. It is easier and cheaper to make crappy movies, so that is what a lot of people in Hollywood are doing... because it works.

When I was a little kid, I watched classic cartoons like Beast Wars, Reboot, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Dexter's Lab, etc. Comparing that era of cartoons to today's cartoons, it is obvious that today's cartoons are generally dumbed down so kids have to do less thinking. Cartoons are not the only thing affected by the dumbing down. Kids shows on the Disney channel are getting so bad that it seems like they are made for kids that are nearly mentally challenged. Watch one full episode of "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" (if you are able to) and you will see what I mean.

Anyways, my point is that this same trend has affected movies as well. Of course there will always be some exceptions for those of us that keep our brains functioning, but for now, this is the newest fad.

We passed the golden age of movies.
Now it's rare to see a good movie that isn't based off anything.

God, I miss the old days.

And we have bootleg on the internet.
And in DVD form.

And I doubt we'll hop back into the golden age of movies.
At least not now.

Movie makers have been remaking books / plays / old movies since movies were in their infancy - this is nothing new.

I like to put Hollywood's remake frenzy into the following categories:

1910's / 1920's - silent version (usually a book or stage rip)
1930's / 1940's - "talkie" version
1950's / 1960's - color / widescreen version
1970's / 1980's - nudity laced / profane / darker themed version
1990's / 2000's - minority slanted / CGI overloaded / ever more darker themed version

i agree that movies arent original anymore =/
i think basing off books is fine, but as long as they stick to the book, unlike in Eragon, i love the books, didnt like the movie so much.
but i think people, generally movie makers and such and ppl in hollywood are getting stupider.
i think half the random things me and my friends think of or do r better than most movies that r coming out

I am shocked and appalled at this post, when you have perfectly good movies that clearly are overlooked. Case in point:

Well, I would like to point out that as amazing and great as coroline was, it was based off of a book by neil gaiman. (who would have thought hey?)

As for the problem with original movies, it is not the fact that there is a lack of un-original movies out there. The poblem is the fact that MANY advertizers are not showing them. This is mainly because independant films don't get a lot of money, and despite being amazing but cheap to produce. (Undead, brick, clerks.) they have to rely on not sucking to be spread around by word of mouth. I am sure that if you looked hard enough you would be able to find many movies out there that are very original, and in some cases do have a decent budget (hardcandy anyone?).

Happy hunting.
