Well allow me to tell you what I remember about the movie. The movie is a metaphor for Stephen King's life at the time that he wrote it. He didn't realize it until 3 years later but the lead charecter and Stephen were almost the exact same guy. OK, room 237. Here's the back story to why that room was chose. S.K. and his wife Tabitha were staying in the real hotel that the movie's based on. During the night stephen saw the little girls in the hallway and thus he had to write the story. Now what was the ending shot again?

OK, the line about "All work and no play, makes johnnie a dull boy."
It's dealing w/ the kinda person that stephen was back when he used to drink. All he would do was drink, get drunk, write some stories, and go to bed. He never spent any time w/ his family. If you read his book "On writing". He'll tell you that back when he drinking he was a totally different person. When the lead charecter snaps, it's not because of his views but the hotel. The main guy trying to kill his family is a metaphor for destroying your family until they're gone. Tabitha was talking about leaving Stephen. His life was on a downward spiral everything was going down hill for him. The type writer that starts typing is a metaphor for how some stories just seem to come alive and forced them selves to be told.

If you actually have any questions plz tell 'em to me. I'll try to help but it's been about 4 years since I've seen the movie. And 6 since I read the Novel.

but like......what is in room 237 in the movie....the scene with the naked women who turns all old and rotty....what does that mean? and what is with the scene when jacks wife is running up the stairs and sees the bear costume person and the other guy in the bedroom? what exactly is supposed to be going on in that hotel? it looked like a bunch of extremely random scary weird stuff. the ending scene is a photograph of the hotel from 1921 and jack is in it, even though the story takes place in like the 70's.

OK, well I'll have to watch the movie again but I can tell you a few more things. *warning I'm not stephen king so I may be wrong* But I think that the picture of Jack in the hotel in the 20s is symbolizing that the evil that consumed him had always been in there. And for the others I'll have to rewatch it to tell you.

btw I'm a huge S.K. Fanboy and that's why I can tell you so much because I read alot of his articles and forewords, afterword, afterthoughts etc.

the evil always having been there is what i thought the pic meant too. i actually wrote that in a response we had to write about it for class =]

but i still dont know what the deal is with room 237.....i think it represents desires and fears. cuz like when danny went in he came out all bruised. when jack goes in there he sees the naked woman (desire) and then she turns all old and gross so that could be his guilt. i felt as though up until he finally loses it for good he still felt some guilt about the way he treated his wife and son. that goes away though after his conversation with grady while locked in the pantry.............but idk....i wish i knew what was going on in that movie better, i feel like it raised one too many questions.

Yes I believe that you're going on the right track w/ it. But the movie's one of the ones by S.K. That will always cause you to have questions. Btw I'm looking for it right now. After I watch it again. I'll tell what I got out of it. OK because as I've said it's been 4 years since I've done anything w/ it so my memory's very vague. And isn't that what good movie's supposed to do keep you wanting more. Having more questions than answers.

I haven't seen the movie in a while, but the book is amazing. I recommend it it everyone. I think it will help clear things up.

Me too, although there is language and sex scenes (Would it be Stephen King without either?)

About 237,
I think it's just a room in a cursed hotel where a dead woman drowned
