A dream and how it will influence my writing.

Last night, 20 May 2008, I had this peculiar dream. Strange because not only did it utilize imagery I have not seen before it also contained scenarios and people that I have not seen anywhere except for one individual besides myself.

I will break this down into three sections, the Dream, my thoughts on it and how I have am going to utilize it in a story.

The Dream

I am in a hall of sorts and a social function. Drawn to a large chamber that is connected to the hall I enter it. Inside what can be seen is multiple levels with great desks, chairs and individuals sitting with a focus towards the front great elevated desk. A word discernible about the whole affair that is was remembered upon waking is "lords". This might mean that it was something like a room comparable to the House of Lords but what made it even stranger was my role in the whole affair. I was an observer at first but as I entered the participants inside quickly acknowledged me and I became involved in the preceding. It was a meeting about something, it ends and I am drawn to the hall again.

As I am walking towards the hall I noticed a dark long haired woman who catches my eye and I advance towards her she quickly retreats as another woman who assume is my wife, since title has not entered the picture yet at this point. It is remarked that she is pregnant and I do feel the slight bulge on her stomach. We proceed together down the hall. I hold her tightly not support myself but it is a sign of deep affection that is a deeper connection than the retreating woman. I have my arm around her as we walk side by side down the hall.

It is during this walk and the ensuing scenario in the banquet hall that I hear the titles King and Queen mentioned and directed at us.

Entering a banquet hall with places for this person and that. My wife begins to become disturbed and upset over no place being set for dignitaries such us but I remark that I had not planned on staying for this banquet so no place was to be set as I assumed she would accompany away. She continues with arguing over the matter to people in charge of the place until I admonish her on her actions and calmly remind her of my love. I ask her to leave me with and together we go back into the hall.

Walking down the hall I encounter my little sister. I inquire to the location of the vehicle so that my wife and I can leave. She remarks about being too busy with her studies that she has no idea. I make a comment that draws me to the front of building.

Dream ends there and another dream begins some time after.

My Thoughts

What is quite weird for me is the use of the titles King and Queen. All of my characters that do have noble titles thus far have only used Emperess, Emperor, Crown Prince, Princess, Lord, Lady, Duke, Duchess, Baron, Baroness, Count, Countess, et cetera.

Using the clear titles of King and Queen is quite off putting. The relationship play between the dark haired woman and the pregnant wife figure was odd. For some reason there seemed to be a strong connection between the dark haired woman and myself. Yet, as I draw near she retreats as she spurns me. The wife figure pops into play next to me and the connection is clearly stronger as I hold her close in a protective gesture.

The whole House of Lords and banquet hall was strange as well as both locales were constructed of places I have never seen before. Yet both were quite clearly defined.

The whole dream did seem kind of strange but at the same time kind of felt like home.

Just makes me hmm...

Story Time

As I was driving home from class I pondered the dream and its application to a story as I do with quite a few of my dreams.

The story would be about a young King and Queen plus a very close female friend of the Prince. The friend wants to pursue a relationship deeper than the Prince wants to go. He is clearly in love with his wife but his wife does seem a little envious of the friend. The interplay of the relationship problems combined with the event that causes a closed meeting of the House of Lords all plays into the story.

I will probably expand on it but that is the gist of the story idea.

My.. That is quite interesting, makes one ponder so. It would definitely make an excellent story. Just.. ask me not to interpret the dream. I can't even interpret my own dreams let alone another's.

I doubt I'd be able to psychoanalyze it either.

We learned about dreams in Biology class. When you sleep, your subconscious takes over and beings throwing out random blips. Your cerebral cortex (the processing plant, if you will) of your brain scrambles furiously to make sense of these. Typically, dreams are based off your last conscious thought before falling asleep. In this case, it was probably marriage, relationships, or something having to do with a girl.

I could say it has to do with your epic struggle between power, love, and lust, but I'm not sure if it's really anything aside from the fact that you have a more creative mind then most other people.

Thanks for the comments but you all didn't have to psychoanalyze the dream to respond. I was just sharing what goes through my mind when I dream and I tend to use that dream in my creation of a story.

You know what this reminds me of Gow? It reminds me of a dream I had not to long ago the wierd thing was that it took place over a period of 7 days and each time it would begin where the last one left off. I will have to type it up later since I had to write it for psychology class. It just so conveniently happened that we where supposed to record our dreams for that week for class. However I will have to do this later and tell me what you think of it.

Heck, post it up and I will help you make a story from it. After all, that is what I do most of the time turn dreams into a story. My only problem is getting them written but I keep an extensive list of these story ideas with details for future reference. When I do want to write them all the info is there.

When I was in my mid - late teens I went through about three years where I suffered from horrible nightmares. It got the point sometimes when I could not sleep for nights at a time because the dreams were so vivid that the fear they invoked would not subside. I ended up in therapy for a year or so and part of my "recovery" was to make my dreams into stories and write them out. I've got about two composition books filled with stories based on my nightmares.

I should dig those out sometime soon...

Well I have those tooas I am a particularly morbid and jovial chap. Most my horror tends to focus on natural world and a few are supernatural entering natural world. I just got out of the habit of sharing any horror ideas due to the whole "fashion" goth culture thinks they are cool and want me to dress like them, et cetera.

However, I am old school gothic, in mind not in fashion. Heh, could be stemming from the necromancy being infused into discordian and I view death in not as something worthy of praise but as something that must be. One of the horror stories is a case of immortality.

Next time I have a nightmare or a horror themed dream I will post it up.

The latter is more likely because I am a morbid fellow and don't really find something completely frightening to qualify as a nightmare.

Sorry for my digression, anyways, go right a head and post them (or one) up if you feel inclined to do so.

I am a fairly morbid person as well. I live off of horror movies and novels (actual books not just graphic novels). It takes a lot to phase me in the way of "horror". I mean, one of my favorite movies of all time is Cannibal Holocaust. I have never seen another movie that can compare to the graphic nature of that film.

Most of my dreams were based in reality in regards to the subject matter of the dream. I find nothing frightening about the supernatural (mostly because I do not believe in it).

I will have to dig through some boxes in the garage to dig out those books. Perhaps I will edit them (they were written when I was like 15 or so) and post a few of the more macabre ones on here.

As far as having lucid dreams... i don't know if they would be considered "Lucid Dreams" clinically but I've had dreams where I seemed to have a level consciousness and some control over what transipres..

wow this story is brilliant. I love this dream... I'm not going to analyze it b/c that'd take away the brilliance of the story. I'm sorry that I can't help you w/ that aspect. but the story seems brilliant.
