Default ZOMG! The Zune's Dying?! [Fat Chance...]

dead?Leave it to a ton... and I mean a ton... of bloggers... to take one tiny paragraph and blow it way way out of proportion (from an article on Microsoft v. Google no less).* There was an obscure paragraph from an interview with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer where the writer, Richard Waters, makes HIS OWN translation of something Ballmer said.* Waters writes:

***** "Mr Ballmer seemed all but ready to throw in the towel on the Zune mobile device, which has failed to gain ground on Apple’s iPod"

This little sentence of speculation near the bottom of the article sent a flurry of bloggers onto their sites where they prematurely announced Zune's Death.* (See HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE)

But they couldn't be farther from the truth.* First off, We know there may come a time where there will be a shift from stand-alone MP3 players - we've heard that over a year ago.* Second, Robbie Bach has said Zune is here to stay - we're on a 4-5 year journey with Zune!* And finally, even the ZuneInsider is saying this is all hog-wash .* Microsoft is creating Zune to be a huge platform used on a multitude of devices.

So don't believe everything you read (except everything here on zB of course =P).* Zune's not going away anytime soon, and by seeing those job postings, it doesn't look like the Zune device is going away either.
