Default Infraction System

Since we're now using vB, we have a different infraction system, and it works differently, and I think, much better than SMF.

Hopefully, it will seldomly have to be used, but this is how the infraction system works.

Infractions are given to users for posts that violate the rules of the forum. Section Staff, Super Moderators and administrators give out infractions, but all members can 'Report' posts that they feel is against the rules.

Use this button (), in the bottom left of each post, underneath the user's info., to report a post.

DO NOT ABUSE THE 'REPORT POST' BUTTON, OR YOU WILL BE PUNISHED.

Infractions are (regularly) worth 1 point, and they expire (again, regularly) in 15 days.

When a user accumulates 4 points, they will be Mod. Previewed, which means they will be unable to post without a staff member approving their post first. They will remain this way until one (or more) of the infractions expires, or is reversed.

When a user accumulates 6 points, they will be unable to post, until one (or more) of the infractions expires, or is reversed.

When a user accumulates 10 points, the user is banned for 3 days, or until one (or more) of the infractions expires, or is reversed.

When 15 (unexpired) infractions are accumulated by a user, he/she will be banned for a week (7 days).

Feel free to ask any and all questions you may have.

I think that those are fair rules but say u get ur 10 points and u are a miserable user and u wait the days or whatever then do u become an unmiserable user and have 0 points or do the points always stay with you

After the designated time, the infractions and banning will expire, and yes, you'll be back to a 'normal' user.

I do not understand something. How is a person going to get more than four points when a moderator has to approve their post before it is posted? It makes no sense to me, unless you can receive points from a moderator for attempting to post something inappropriate. Is that the case?

So, an infraction for warez is worth 25 days or so instead of the regular 15 days?

A typical warez infractions is worth 25 days, although 'custom' infractions are possible. 'Regular' infractions, range from 15-20 days, depending on the offense.

If they've broken a whole bunch of rules at once, or the same rule in different places, they'll get more points against them.

Thanks for clarifying. I must say though that as forums go this seems to be one of the best I've encountered with respect to good posts. I suspect it's the result of the persistent efforts of the administrators.

I like this whole system that's been going on, but I feel like it is a little too forgiving.

Like, to actually get reported 15 times, without one of them expiring, it seems like the person has to work to be that bad. Even then, it's just a ban for a week until they can come back again, or is that when a mod would take action or something?

We have had few instances where we had to go further than this system. It has worked fine, only major spammers deserve bans and that is how this system operates
