Well, here's kind of how it goes.
It all started with steam. I wanted to download CS: S and Gmod , but didn't have enough room on the hard drive. SOOOoooooooo........I went out and bought a Western Digital 320GB SATA drive (My old drive's were.....well....old) . I plugged it in, restarted the computer and then, bam. There went the motherboard. So i ordered a Phenom compatible board with 2 PCI-E slots, 4 DDR2 slots and a 780 G/M chipset, along with 2GB of DDr2 Dual Channel 800Mhz RAM. My dad brought home the Phenom (4 cores, 2.3Ghz of power, hell yes) He got it for free through AMD (w00t). SOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... ..............We rebuild the computer, plugged everything in, and guess what? We forgot about the power supply. Oh boy, we needed at least 400 watts, and we had a 320. *pop* out it went. So i went out to Fry's and got a brand new case (old case had USB 1.0 and it was kind of ugly). Raidmax xA with matching Keyboard and mouse, and plenty of pretty and shiny LED's. $75 and it had a $20 rebate, thank you Fry's. Brought it home put it back together AGAIN, and went for my XP Pro disk. Right as i did so however, in walks my dad with a Vista Ultimate installer. Couldn't pass that up. So we put the disk in, let Win'Dohs finish loading, and restarted. Holy crap. I dont think i've ever seen a computer run that fast. Within 10 seconds it was up and ready to go. No lag, no hiccups, nothing. Vista. no problems (at least i hope theres no more down the road). S now, i can't believe i'm saying this, but i love vista now. I put firefox on it, zune, steam, CS: s, Gmod, all the goodies, not one problem. So now after a week, i'm finally back with my brand new rig Specs: AMD Phenom Quad-Core 2.3Ghz Corsair Dual Channel DDR2 800Mhz RAM ATi Diamond X300SE 256mb Video card (Upgrading to 2 DX10 cards soon) Black Technologies Phenom Board with 2 PCI-E Slots, 4 DDR2 ram slots, HDMI and a 780 G/M chipset 19" LCD Flatpanel monitor (able to use full resolution) Raidmax xA Case w/ Matching Keyboard and Mouse (and LEDS and Fans) Vista Ultimate 32 bit and a crappy speaker system, soon to be 5.1 surround.

Amazing. Absolutely spectacular. And I've noticed something, If you're going to install Vista, Use an AMD Processor. All of my friends with AMD's have no problems, but all of my friends with Intels, well, they seem to complain more. I would HIGHLY recommend the Phenom to anyone looking for a good Quad-Core.

I have an Intel Q6600 2.4GHz quad core with Vista Ultimate 64-bit with ZERO problems.
Also, I hate to burst your bubble, but you need 64-bit. 32-bit Windows can't see all 4 cores, and if you have more than 3gig total RAM, then it won't see all of it. Thus, upgrade to 64-bit Windows, and all shall become even better! Also, I'm an Intel and Nvidia guy, so I have to say, bleh on the Phenom. I <3 my Q6600 and 8800GTX.
