ok .. this one works (1.5) and is a little more stealthy looking. I had to do it a couple of times.. but now it is working all the time.. and I can write to the Zune...
The 1st time I ran it the sync button was grey.. even though it said i was attached.. not sure what was going on there. When I did the Alt-s it asked if i was syncing.. so that was working.. anyway thanks.... Oh. it seems to be more consistant if I push the sync button the hit alt-s...

Are you on XP?
I am nor sure what could be wrong other than a timing issue based on the speed of you machine.

The Alt+S alone is not working alone for me either.
I have to push sync 1st and then Alt+S freezes the Zune in syncing mode and when I hit yes it starts my Mediamonkey but the Zune icon doesn't appear in Mediamonkey so I have to uze zAlternator to specifiy Generic WPD and then start mediamonkey.
I'd say for now on it's a better solution vs. manually terminating the zune.exe but I'm gonna change my ini file to redirect it toward zalternator.
Good step in the right direction but not a true one-click solution yet.
I know this might sound negative but I really appreciate your effort on this... just explaining my situation
Again thanks a lot for your efforts !

I really appreciate the feedback it helps me get an idea of how people will use this, and gives me ideas on how to improve it.

I think i am going to go back to the more automated process, i don't really like the whole hotkey/mouse over button idea. And i personally have had very few failures to unlock with the automated version.

I made a quick beta test 1.6 version,
This is mostly 1.4 with a change to the run after ini file processing.

You can now set two paths to be run after unlock, zAuto Unlocker will run the first app, wait for it to end , then run the second one.
This should be handy for those using zAlternator and MediaMonkey.
The ini file should look something like this:
Code:
[Apps]
Path1 =
Path2 =
I may add a time variable to the ini in the final 1.6, so people having problems can adjust it.

Edit:
1.6 is done now, and the info page should be updated shortly.

please check your zAutoRunAfterSync.ini
make sure the contents look like this:
Code:
[Apps]
Path1 =
Path2 =

[KillDelay]
Time =0
Edit:
I have updated the installer, it did not have the new ini file in it.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Is it possible to use the Zune software after this is installed?
IE, how am I now supposed to transfer files? I don't want to use zAlternator, nor do I want to drag/drop files through Windows Explorer. Perhaps in the next version have when the Zune software opens have zAuto Unlocker ask whether or not to end the Zune software process.

Thanks for this though, it's great. Made downloading pictures from the device muuuch easier.

You click start menu, programs, zune auto unlocker, zune.original.exe

Thanks for the feed back!
I will be adding an exit button to the main gui in the next version, so you can close zAuto Unlocker and leave the main zune app running.

Thats how i usually do it.
You can also start the original zune software, and it will take the device out of sync mode when it starts.

Default 1.6 WORKS LIKE A BREEZE !!!

Hi Random667,

Eventually got the opportunity to check your 1.6 version.
I had to do a little bit a trial & error to find the exact Kill Delay as the syncing is on for a very short time but at 200ms it eventually remained syncing.
Then everything worked as describded... it launched zalternator and upon closing my MediaMonkey !
Excellent Piece of work !
Many thanks for making our lives easier !

Thanks I really appreciate the feedback.
I figured the time delay would be a possible problem based on the users machines differences, I'm glad it worked.

After first using this hack, in conjunction with zAlternator, it worked great. However, now when I go to sync with my Zune it doesn't work. The Zune shows up in My Computer, but any attempt to create folders or anything I get the error "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected".

In WMP, it gets an error due to the same reason. And the Zune software doesn't even recognize it as a Zune.

This seems to happen to me every once in a while, the device will be in sync mode but i still cant modify files on the device. i usually just run the unlocker again and it will work. But you may want to try adjusting the delay timer if it happens often.

The Zune isn't recognized by the Zune software, therefore the unlocker program doesn't work.

As it stands, I can't put music on my Zune with any program, nor directly.
