Pity, I appreciate the time and effort put into this...I've used WMP for the past five years and was totally unimpressed with the Zune software. I don't think it's that much of an inconvenience to do the entire process each time I wanna sync something...it's not like I'm syncing all the time, maybe a few times week at the most. It would be less annoying if people would read through a few posts, as most issues are addressed somewhere.

I know. Everyone hates the ZS, and people are all complaining about re-unlocking it without reading right below the download link saying this is a beta..

Well, we can post them answers and get zB, so it's all good.

I have unlocked my Zune 80 and synced it to WMP, but I have a question. In zAlternator, there are 2 Zune devices. One shows that it has the correct firmware, but the other one shows unknown firmware. I only have the one Zune, why does it show up twice in zAlternator?

There is something messed up in your registry.

There is something messed up in your registry.

Can you make a guess at what it might be? Here is what zAlternator is showing (word for word):

Device 1 - Unknown
This device is registered on the system as a Zune, but its firmware version is unknown

Device 2 - firmware 2.0 - 2.3
This Zune device is registered on this system and is running a firmware version between 2.0 and 2.3.

Sorry to be such a bother, but I have not seen this error referenced anywhere else.

Your device uses firmware 2.0 - 2.3, so device 2 is the one you want. There are incorrect entries in your registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\USB\V id_045e&Pid_0710 .

The program is working how it is intended, so dont worry. Just ignore that one.

Thank you sir. I was worried because, after performing the Zune reformat trick, I now have 3 devices listed in zAlternator.

Default Unbelieable problems

I am having so many problems with this. I figured out the unlocking and all of that, but when I was syncing with WMP 10, it would not say that it had stopped syncing for the longest time. Finally it read "100%" for a good fifteen minutes, so I closed WMP and disconnected the device.

Now it doesn't respond at all. None of my buttons on my Zune do anything, and pressing the back button and the up button does not restart it like the manual says it should. When I plug it back in, I can get it again on my Zune software, without any of the updated music of course, but when I unlock it again, WMP won't recognize that it's even there. And I still can't get it to respond--except when I connect it, which then says "connected" and doesn't do anything else.

What in the world do I do? Have I destroyed it?

Never mind. I didn't destroy it; I accidentally turned the manual "lock" on.

BUT, how do I put whole playlists on my Zune? All I can get it to do is single songs.

Just use the tutorial, chances are whatever questions you have will get answered in there.
