Very nice. Thanks for working on something like this.

EDIT: Doesn't seem to work with the Vista x64 Zune but I am still going to recommend this to all the people who dislike the new Zune software.

Also, a suggestion, put the Manual Sync thing into the instructions to save yourself the hassle of people downloading it and asking why it is not working.

i cant seem to get it to unlock,i end the process of zune then open the alternator and clikc generic wpd and then apply and then goes to zunedefault

If you have any questions or problems with zAlternator, post them here.

Remember, you must unlock your device before this will work! We know iTunes support is sketchy. You must unlock the device every time you plug the Zune in..

Before posting for help pleasebe sure you have tried everything below
Manual Unlocking:

It actually has nothing to do with manual labor (aka hardware modifications), so it does not void your warranty.

By default, the Zune can not be accessed by anything other than the Zune program. To get it to work in other programs we have to (at this point) manually unlock it. Here is how:

1. Start up the Zune program
2. Get media and start a sync to your Zune
3. When your Zune is displaying the "synconizing" screen, end the Zune process through Windows Task Manager
4. Fire up zAlternator and set Zune to use a different program

Right-click, Run as Administrator

Quick question... Is the unlock step required for each time the Zune syncs with non-Zune software or is it a one-time setup deal?

Thanks for the quick reply Dizzy. I was hoping that I'd never have to look at the new software again.

Looks like downgrading is still the only way to be able to do that.

But I applaud PityOnU for his tenacity in working through to a solution for the new software. I know that there are many, many Zune owners for whom this solution is GOLD.

Really, all you've got to do is load it up. No real syncing or anything. It's not a big pain at all

I understand that. But I don't want to have that bloated behemoth on my system (known as the 2.x software) nor have its services running in the background.

I'd rather have the 1.x software and hook up with last.fm for a music community "social" type thing. But I'm odd like that.

Maybe I'm just ******ed, but this will not show up on iTunes. I did the sync, but now it won't show up....So, whats the deal?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think zAlt works with 1.0 too. It's got the options anyway.
