1)Sometimes disconnecting from the internet will solve it, so try pulling the plug a little early. 2) Another program is using that port, find and turn off that program. You can use CurrPorts to do this. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html DL link is at the bottom of the page. 3) You're firewall is blocking Java from opening ports. Config your Firewall to let Java through. If none of these solve your problem, I can't be much help, The problem itself is a little out of my league, this is just info I found after plugging your error message into a couple search engines.

this is confusing i got stuck at at this...
5) Execute makearc.bat, you'll see a result screen as pictured in the Non-US Hack Guide's step 3. (If you want to add other fonts to your Zune, Edit the .bat in a plain text editor before you run it. It will be pretty obvious how to add fonts. I did not add any others, or edit the .bat so I can't promise it'll work if you add extras.) 6) Move Zune01050485.cab created by makearc.bat up into the zunehack folder. my problem is when i clicked on makearc.bat comand promt came up and said extract firmware file ERROR! Press any key to continue. . . and nothing happens can u help me out here??? |

Below are the comamnd lines of the .bat that can cause that error.
Make sure all these files exist. The .cab and .exe have to be in the same folder as makearc.bat. The fonts have to be in your font directory. %Systemroot% means your OS directory (usually \windows\) if not exist zune01020434.cab goto errlev if not exist cabarc.exe goto errlev if not exist %systemroot%\fonts\gulim.ttc goto errlev if not exist %systemroot%\fonts\mingliu.ttc goto errlev if not exist %systemroot%\fonts\msgothic.ttc goto errlev if not exist %systemroot%\fonts\simsun.ttc goto errlev

I got pass the error part where to install the firm ware.. but it keeps saying "transfering firmware " to 100% then redoes it again.
edit: now that i retry it AGAIN I can't get pass the error.. when i followed your direction saying to to unzip the zune.cab. and then copy and paste it to the temp.. then recheck for updates, it still gives me an error? i did everything correctly, did I do anything wrong?\ edit again: when it finally transfered the firmware, it would go stright to step 2 again after it reformats yet again.. I was able to transfer the firmware.. but at the end it would say "firmware failed to update, please try again" I NEED HEEELP =[ Last edited by Gregory : 04-14-2008 at 02:29 AM. Reason: double post |

Try again and make sure you can ping back to yourself.

I'm not 100% sure I never any problems like this, but Gregory may be right. If he is your DNS isn't set properly. By "ping back to yourself" He means in the cmd, after setting up your DNS type in:
ping go.microsoft.com your result should be: 127.0.0.1 Which is yourself, If this isn't what you're getting then your DNS is most likely incorrectly set.

I have no idea if the first gen software this uses will run a second generation Zune. If it doesn't work, I doubt the 1.x software will even register a Zune is connected, so nothing would happen, At worst it'll put the software on your zune, won't work, and then you reupgrade to the current version.
But don't take my word as gold, I don't have a second gen Zune so I have no idea exactly what would happen. If you find out, let us know.

I got that error message stated there. My story is that I upgraded to the 2.5 firmware or whatever is currently available, because I upgraded my computer. I didn't think twice on it because I was in a hurry. Needless to say I wanted to throw up all over the new stuff.
I searched around and this place is the only thing I've found. I have a 30 gig clunky Zune. I have XP with Service Pack 3 on it. I'm stuck on the part of having it try and load my driver, and when I did it with my old comptuer it gave me the sync file issue. I'm sorta confused. I suppose I could try redoing all of this on the old computer and seeing if it works there. |

Well I'll be damned. I got it to work after all. Set everything up on the other computer and then transferred it back, and it's creating the library and all that good stuff on its own!
PLUS all my JPop and stuff will display correctly, an added bonus for the pain and suffering Microsoft has brough to me by sticking with their 'newer versions'... sigh, why is it that 'newest versions' are always crappy compared to older ones? MSN, AIM, AOL, Yahoo, etc? >.< |

Glad to see you got it working. And yup, I perfectly Agree, That's why I went to so much trouble getting this to work, the instant 2.x came out and I used it I knew it was worse, You actually LOSE features going from 1.x to 2.x

-alright sry guys i dont wanna sound retarded, but the zune itself isnt my smart spot if u know what i mean. When i first got my zune 30 gb i loved it :] no complaints and i didnt care about size hahah, but then the eastern characters pissed me off cause i couldnt tell what any of my songs said... i mean microsoft knows that there are not just english people in america :O is it my fault for being korean -.- so with such horrible memories i put my zune aside and bought a creative zen blah ok still liked the zune, it just seemed nicer lol xD
-Ok so besides that i did this tutorial took me about an hour or so cause it failed twice lol........ahh my stupidity xD well its ausome and i wanted to say i love u guys xD! but a quick question was that im using the firmware and i wanted to know if it is safe to upgrade to the 2.6 firmware or w/e is out now....i would imagegine this lovely patch would be overwritten? well thats just a quick question xD -ty so much for your guys hard work though, u have no idea how much this means for me to see my music !and i still think microsoft killed themselves by keeping zune to basics only i mean zune could own freaking anything! lol ![]() ![]() |

Yes, Unfortunately, if you upgrade to the current version of the zune software you will no longer be able to see the asian characters. The text will go back to being boxes.

If your getting this problem after doing that, I'd check and make sure you have the correct .dll file for step 11) you can get it here: http://www.malific.com/zunelib-patched.rar If you have the proper file I'm not sure what the difficulty is, which person were you referring to that had the same issue? To my knowledge all the previous issues before this one were resolved so there should be a solution already posted if you encountered the same problem some one else had. Either way if you direct me the poster or post number of the problem similar to yours (yes I'm lazy but it's also very late for me ATM) I'll try to find a better solution if the ones I listed don't help.

I have the same problem..during the last step when it was trying to update the firmware, it said that it wasn't able to sync at the time. Also, when I went to my Temp folder, it didn't have a directory with a bunch of numbers and letters. It had a bunch of files related to zune though.

If your error says "Cannot change Sync settings at this time" Then I hate to say it but you'll have to start over.
If those files are the correct ones you're looking for, then Unzipping the .cab file there should work, but everytime I did this I had the directory appear.

I got an error when I ran makearc.bat. After it extracts the firmware files successfully, it says...
Make 'Fonts' directory A subdirectory or file Fonts already exists. Done (2/4) Copy font files ERROR! Press any key to continue.. then I press a key and it exits. Any tips? =/ EDIT: Nevermind. I didn't have East Asian language fonts installed on my computer. EDIT again: After step 12, is it supposed to prompt for the location of drivers? Because it did, and I didn't any. I downloaded the drivers posted here: link and then it did the "Cannot change Sync settings at this time" thing. So um, where do I get the correct driver files? EDIT again: k I found the driver file in C:/WINDOWS/system32/drivers/UMDF, and then it was asking for a bunch of other files which I found in just system32 folder (they all start with "Zune"). I hope this helps someone. However, I got it to step 16 and now I'm stuck. After I close the error or even if I don't close it, it just says "Waiting for the device to update" with the increasing ......... and I let it sit for 30 minutes, nothing happened. I tried right clicking the Zune logo but nothing happens, no option for checking for updates or anything. Last edited by snowDoLL : 06-13-2008 at 10:11 AM. |
