Under the assumption, user can access the system partition, I have a some kind of a way to support non-us character on zune.
Basically, I think Zune's default registry setting indicate a link from zune's default font to the asian font (korean and chinese and etc.) under the registry entity "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\FontLin k\Sy stemLink"
and following is actual registry data.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\Sys temLink]
"Convection Condensed"="\\Hard Disk\\Fonts\\msgothic.ttc,MS UI Gothic;\\Hard Disk\\Fonts\\gulim.ttc,Gulim;\\Hard Disk\\Fonts\\mingliu.ttc,MingLiU;\\Hard Disk\\Fonts\\simsun.ttc,NSimSun"
"Convection UI"="\\Hard Disk\\Fonts\\msgothic.ttc,MS UI Gothic;\\Hard Disk\\Fonts\\gulim.ttc,Gulim;\\Hard Disk\\Fonts\\mingliu.ttc,MingLiU;\\Hard Disk\\Fonts\\simsun.ttc,NSimSun"
(gulim.ttc is korean font mingliu is for chinese)
Though the registry value indicates 'link', the system partition actually does not have those fonts, so the non-us character appears as a box.
So, I think if we put those fonts into the system partition, zune will correctly display non-us character.
(and this method is used on some english version windows mobile based PDA to support non-us character)
Can we go anywhere with this? I'm assuming no... =[
And you know what? Macs are too hip. Oh, look at me! I do graphic design! I wear women's jeans and hang out in coffee shops! I'm a DJ! Well good for you. My computer is not a fashion statement. It's a computer.
If I understand what that is suggesting, we simply have to put a certain font type onto the system partition in order to allow asian character support? If so that might be doable soon thanks to UAK.

That's the way I understood it as well. It's too bad this "hack" (if it works) wouldn't possible for the average person, as not everybody wants to void their warranty and buy a $30 cable for their zune's HD. I certainly hope we eventually find out a softmod approach (assuming this all works out OK).

Hrm yea, I remember that. Maybe we can buy the Zif connectors in builk, and start selling a "Hack Your Zune Kit." We'll need some kickass linux running the Zune first though.
That would be good, since we/zbp could get a nice executable together where you select the drive name (or it finds it automatically) and it goes and modifies the whole thing all nice (with zuneboards.com in a few key places of course).
Or we could just start selling modded Harddrives or something
But that's getting ahead of ourselves, first we need to wait for the first ziff connector to ship to UAK and then find out what (if any) protection MS has put on the HDD (since we don't know if when we put the Harddrive back in it won't detect that it was modded and reformat it).

With access to system partition there we may be able to find exploits/weak spots which we may be able to somehow use on zune's with no access to these adapters.
