NOTE: The P.O.D. sig and the Ranger's Apprentice sig were removed because the outer glow was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too big.

It's a good start, i hope you're motivated enough to keep getting better and improve, just like Charge did when he started his own thread.

Just a pointer, i think you should work on making the backgrounds on your sigs a bit more complex then simple gradients, and also getting the colors to match well.
Because personally, i think colors that match well are one of the most attractive parts of art work, whether it be real or digitally created.
Play around with brushes, there's millions of PS brushes out there that are compatible with the latest version of GIMP and they can compliment your main render nicely.

Better Backgrounds, Better shadowing, better text. Other than that good ideas.

Your definitely at a good start. But I think you need to improve on your backgrounds and text. Find some tutorials, try new things.

By text, do you mean the fonts suck or something else? Because some of the fonts do suck.

Fonts, Size, Colour. Small- Black or White is usually the best.

To Be honest, the MattFTW one is really good.

And I agree about the font. I see no sense in putting your name really freaking big, make the background of the text better, someone will stop and look at it, and realize its YOUR sig.

Make them search for the name, it gets the person intrigued into the picture. Not so much so that they don't know who you are though lol.

There are ways to make the gradients more 'interesting' if you play around with various tools offered in gimp... i've come up with a few good results, except i keep forgetting the methods i use which is something for me to work on.
