tell me what u think (new photoshop work)

i did this in photoshop. its not new...its from like a month ago, but i thought id post it here. its a little different from what usually gets posted inthe graphics section but i think its still relevant

original photo was also taken by me...the gears and stuff i found on the internet and then heavily modified.

so let me know what u guys think =]
constructive in depth criticism is welcomed

Interesting. It would look better if the gears and stuff were blended in there better, they stick out alot.

Freaky....!!! Lol well yeah.. but seriously that is really good. If I had to rate it on a scale of 10, Id give it a 9/10. -1 only because it freaks me out. I love it, now photoshop isn't really my thing, so theirs not much advice I can give to you about it. Since you probably know more about photoshop then I do. All I can say is it's nice, showed it too my little cousin, he thought it was real...

Oh yah I love how you made her lips kinda I guess pasty/chapped not sure how to word it but you get what I mean. The cracks on the side of her cheek kind of look real to me at first, like she had a skin disease or something. The only thing that I find kind of off...is that the gear/hole/crack in her forehead. The little flap I guess you can call it looks as if it's going back inside her head with the gears. Kind makes it look as if the gears with in her a idk little back away from the outer shell of her body..hard to explain/word. But yeah looks good overall! Amazing job!!

yeah i know what u mean. its really hard to give the gears depth and make them look like real gears in her head. what do u mean by blending in more?

well for one right where the gears start there is a sudden change of color.

Also the lighting is nonsensical.

And I have no clue what you were trying to do with the lips...

i said constructive criticism was welcomed....not outright hating on the peice. telling me what i did wrong with the lips would be great..i know they dont look good and i could have easily gotten rid of that layer in photoshop...but i decided to keep it in so ppl could tell me what is wrong with them..not to tell me they suck cuz i already know that.

how can I know what's wrong with them when I have no clue what you were trying to do with them? it looks like you copy parts of it into a new layer and shifted it down 10-20 pixels or something...

If you were trying to make them look chapped or something... I think you must've accidently moved the layer off of where it should be or something...

u could have told me what u just told me now from the beginning :P

EDIT: i would take ppl's advice and take the lip cracks off but its too much work to go back into photoshop ...hide the layer...and then reupload the pic. especially since its an extremely high resolution pic with like 35 layers...i cant have anything but photoshop open when i work on it.

ok to be constructive... to me it looks to fake to be believable... and the framing of the picture isnt well planned.

but it looks decent. as others said, try and blend the objects better

I think you should resize the shadow under where her skin is peeling cuz it looks like the gears are farther back, so then it's like there's nothing there forming the structure of her face.. I dunno if I made that make sense..

i know it looks fake...the fake parts are way too saturated for the rest of the pic. what do u mean by framing? i really liked the original photograph, especially the framing. i can see how it might not work out too well for what i did with it though. the reason i used it is because of the girl's expression in the original, but i guess i kinda got rid of it through photoshop :P .... i didnt wanna look on flickr for a pic because i wanted it to be as much of my work as possible. but thanks for the advice...i definitely see where ur coming from with ur suggestions.

Like others have said the shadows and depth are off. The gears on her forehead don't follow the cranial curve. Try to blend the skin with the gears more as right now it looks like her skin is a few millimeters thick and plastic. I'm thinking you wanted it to look like flesh?

Play around with the gear color/saturation/contrast a bit.

The lips bother me. They look far too lossy to go with the rest of the image. Past looking chapped.

The effect you were going for isn't an easy one. I've done it several times for projects and it never gets easier as each image is different.

well. I think this is very cool. Yes, the gears look too bright to be believable, and the smoke and the eyes seem off, but i really like what you did to that spot in her jawline. that is really believable, and very cool. :] How long did it take?

Pretty wicked, the cracks on the side are cool but the smoke is very fake and the gears really do stick out a bit too much.
