I am looking into trying out some photoshop stuff, is Adobe really worth the mucho dinero they demand for it? Are there any free programs I can download and try out without having to register my email address with the company?
Also, does anyone know of a good program to do streaming video capture on PC? Any free ones? I looked at a few, and I think I have heard good things about the ZDSoft one, somewhere before....sometime ago... but I can't remember where....the name just rings a bell....ZDSoft?....
It all depends on what you want to do graphic wise. Photoshop may or may not be what you're looking for. In my opinion, it is worth every penny, and you always don't have to get the full version, you can always get a student/educational version. If you want to edit/manipulate phots, paint, edit/create web content, and the like, Photoshop is perfect. If you prefer drawing and creating vector art, Illustrator is going to be your prime choice. If you just want to paint or sketch, Corel Painter would be your choice.
There are other choices though, for basic graphic editing programs. You also have Paint Shop Pro. It's pretty similar to Photoshop, just cheaper and not as powerful. There is one other program that is totally free and is debated to be just as powerful as Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. That is the lovely open source (I think?) GIMP. If you have any questions on Photoshop I'm pretty confident I can answer them.
The links aren't working for me, but thanks for the suggestions. I have seen GIMP before on some flavor of linux I tried out a while ago...can't remember which one, might have been Suse or Ubuntu... I haven't ever done any type of photo editing/graphics design, the reason I am looking into trying it out (as an on-the-side thing, of course) is mainly because of seeing the stuff that a lot of people here have created. I think it's really cool what you can do with it, and want to try it out for myself.
Thanks for the suggestions!
*edit* I have 2 GB RAM on the laptop that I will be installing GIMP on, how much RAM should I allocate for GIMP?
Sorry about that, typo on my linkage codes, but now they're fixed and working. For the kind of graphics created around here, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and GIMP would do what you wanted. Also 2 GB of RAM is plenty for editing graphics.
I am going to try GIMP....open source usually is not as user friendly, but free is much better than paying for Photoshop...especially just for trying it out.
Thanks for the input, it is going to take a while to learn all the features.... I am trying GIMP right now... That's a lot of stuff to mess with, maybe I should take a class...
If there's a big demand for it, I can post links (including cracks/keygens) somewhere on the boards, either tools or the graphics section. I currently am able to get CS2 and CS3 for people for free. Any takers?
