When I am in Zune software 4.0, I go into the setttings to point the software to write to a second hard drive, but when the window comes up it doesn't list the other hard drive as an option. I want to write all the downloads (music, videos etc) to a second 200 gig drive, but the Zune software doesn't give me that option. The second hard drive is listed in explorer.exe and in device management and I can even run other programs off the second drive. The Zune software is not showing the other drive. Please help
did you double click on "computer" and select the proper hdd?
I am not in front of my computer right now, so I will have to check and get back to you....... where in the setting is the "computer" icon? From my memory, the screen I am talking about lists the music, video and etc and shows where these files are being written to. Mine are currently being written to the C: drive. I Want to write them to my E: drive. When I click in music to Add a location, a window pops up and had two file folders, I can't currently remember the names on the file folder. The folders do not show which hard drive it is in.........I will get more info and post it.......

He is on about when he downloads files. I think the Zune Software makes it download to the C drive and ONLY the C drive, so you cannot remove/take away the storage device that stores your Zune Pass stuff.

When I had the Zune 3.1 software installed (prior to this software upgrade of 4.0), I had all the music, videos etc copied to my E: drive. I want to use and play all the music that is on E: drive, but 4.0 software doesn't show the E: drive in the settings. I set it to write the music to the E: drive in 3.1 software, so I would think I should be able to do that with the 4.0 software. I want to use the music I saved on E: drive......... At least in the 3.1 software, I know a person was able to copy music to hard drives other than C: drive....
Have you tried resetting your computer and removing and connecting your external hard drive?
No I haven't,..........but windows sees the other drive in explorer.exe and the disk management program. I can even run other programs that are on the other hard drive. I think the problem is with the 4.0 software not windows..........

Its just 4.0 not registering it. I would disconnect, restart your PC, then reconnect while in Windows. Then when you see it recognized in the bottom left, Start up the Zune Software.
I don't know about copy features in zune software.. but with the old software I was able to read from my portable hard drive and now I can not. Thought it was just a win7 problem but I guess not

Try it.
you cannot plug in a internal hard drive while in windows.
