I had the zune software installed for my sons zune, but he did an update and installed the 4.0 software. The software then did not work, at all. I tried to uninstall it but i was unable to do that, so I ended up formatting the harddive and reinstalling everything. Now when I use the old Zune Cd software 3.1 ver to try and install it, it begins the install but stops at about 18% , I get and error message of 0x8007001e and it says something to the effect that it couldnt access a particular device? I'm wondering if his computer needs more ram. It currently has 512 megs, but I just purchased more so he will have 1 gig soon. Please help! Thankyou for your help ahead of time!!
Additional info:
The ram may not be the problem, because the 3.1 software installed fine when he first got the zune about a year ago. I think the requirement for the 3.1 software is only 256 megs ram? Thanks again for your help!
System recommendations
To get the most out of Zune, your computer should meet system requirements, including a 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor and 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit). You'll need a broadband Internet connection to make buying and streaming content a breeze, and a CD-R or DVD±R drive to burn CDs or DVDs. Of course, a wi-fi network is necessary for you to wirelessly sync your Zune to your computer.
No errors with harddrive. I have a 30 gig harddrive and a 200 gig hd on this computer. I had most of the files from the (first install of zune software 3.1) written to the second harddrive, 200 gig. Now after reinstalling xp my system sees the 30 gig and the 200 gig harddrive in the device manager, but the 200 gig hd is not listed on any pull down menu for accessing programs using explorer.exe. I am hoping that I will still be able to access the 200 gig drive because that is where all my sons songs are located....?

How exactly did you reinstall XP... did you wipe the 30 gig HDD completely and then do it, or did you simply copy over the existing install with a new one?

Yes, I formatted the 30 gig harddrive before installing windows xp.
Hmm... I'm not really sure what the issue is with the HDD, then... have you tried getting proper drivers for it?
Also, have you tried the full package (~300 mb) for the zune software?
No I have not tried to get proper drivers for the 200 gig Hd, I looked briefly the other day, but I ran out of time.......
No, I have not tried the full package for the zune software. What is the advantage for the full package?
I tried to update the drivers in the device manager, by clicking on the update driver button, but this did not work....... and I ran out of time that particular day.

You would have to look on the manufacturer's website, most likely. Also, the full zune package contains all the dependencies that the zune software needs, and it will install them if they are found to be missing.
Also, please use the edit button instead of double posting.

Can you give me the link to the full zune package? Thanks!.
I had a thought this am. When I first tried to install the 3.1 after formatting my harddrive, I forgot to disconnect my highspeed internet so I know It looked for updates. I stopped the update install, but this was after it started getting the updates. Could that have messed things up? If so, what do I need to do now......?
I'm thinking that I probably need to completely uninstall the zune software and start over........... but I will have to get directions to uninstall it completely........?

I upgraded my system memory, updated the directx software, downloaded the large file for the Zune software and it is working now. The error message is gone. Thank you for everyone's help!!
