Exclamation [SOLVED] HELP! I may have just deleted all my content!!

I got a new laptop and was trying to set it up with my Zune 120. I installed the new Zune software, and established it with my Zune account, but was having problems syncing my Zune - - - so I decided to 'start fresh' and hit the "ERASE ALL CONTENT" ("Settings">"device">"SYNC OPTIONS") button. Well - this seems to have erased all the content from my Zune, but also ALL the mp3s from my external drive too!! HELP!! What did I do wrong? And can I get my files back at all!!???

I am in crisis mode right now... any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I looked everywhere - nothing! I am using the latest Zune software, running on Win XP Pro.

Any help would be appreciated. Has anyone experienced this??

I have literally LOST all of my mp3s!!! Wow.

HELP!!!!

I have no freakin idea what happened. BUT I do have the data back now.

I use a fairly old 200 GB external hard-drive (one of several that I have). It's a Western Digital. The 'properties' show it as:
WDC WD20000BB-00DAA1 USB Device

When I looked at the drive through Windows Explorer, I would see just my folders and all the tree structures intact - - but with NO files inside them! So essentially, I had hundreds of empty folders (e.g. "U2" folder, with a bunch of U2 album folders, but no files at all).

But when I did a reboot and looked at the drive again (JUST NOW, after a terrible night!).... I can see all my beautiful MP3s again!! Yeah!!!!

Thanks. What do you think happened??

First off, DON'T make any more changes to your PC. Use another PC for forum browsing, if at all possible. And don't create any new files or install programs!

I'm assuming that the files on your PC were erased, but that doesn't mean it's not retrievable. Deleted files, assuming you don't overwrite them with new data, can be undeleted - there are several tools out there to do file restoration.

One that I use, since it's free: Restoration Freeware download and review - file undelete utility from SnapFiles. But, there are probably better commercial apps out there.

EDIT: Never mind, I see that you managed to get your files back! No idea what might have happened, but I'm glad to hear that it's resolved.

Roebeet - thank you for your suggestions and response. I appreciate it.

Still trying to figure out what the best way to sync my songs!! In Sync Options, I have tried all of the options (Items I choose/ All/ Manual Sync)... and I have the folder on the ext hard drive with all my (now available) MP3s as a folder that Zune is watching ... but when I hit sync, nothing gets over to my Zune. Hmmm...

Any suggestions??

Thanks again.

When I had my Zune 30, my preference was to sync manually - which meant actually dragging the music folders from the Zune Software and into the Zune icon.

For me, it was the best way to manage my device - but, everyone is different.
