iTunes to Zune conversion? HELP.

I obviously have a Zune and not an ipod, but I do have an itunes gift card. I haven't created an account in itunes yet; so to use the gift card, do I have to enter a credit card number while setting up an account?
Then after buying songs using the card, I will obviously need to find some way to transfer them over to my Zune. Is converting the files over again as .mp3 (in a converter such as SUPER) going to erase the drm and let me sync the songs to my zune through the zune software?

I'm pretty sure that itune songs are DRM-free now.
But I'm not sure what you have to do with a itunes account, but I answered the second part.
