Default Zune 4 Client - redownloads podcasts

All,

I would suggest checking the downloads that Zune is doing after the upgrade to the 4.0 client software.

My Zune client is now downloading 400+ files that it didn't feel the need to download with the 3.x client.

I am still investigating why - but it seems to be those podcast entries that I had previously marked as Played. If you did this in 3.x it wouldn't bother downloading them - possibly in 4.0 this behaviour has changed.

This may cause you issues if you live somewhere (like Australia) where you have download limits. 400+ podcasts would likely take me over the limit.

First time and every time.

The series (more than one have the issue) are set to download all podcasts and have a variety of sync settings (sync all unplayed, sync none, sync first unplayed etc).

To be clear, with Zune 3.x I had the series settings to download all, but if you marked certain episodes (in my case, 400+) as Played it wouldn't download those ones (if you closed and reopened the Zune client). Zune 4.0 seems to act differently - it will attempt to download those (400+) episodes that were marked as Played.

Default Same Issue

I am having the exact same issue, keeps downloading episodes that I have already listened to and deleted or have told the system I have listened so it wouldn't download. It is happening to all of my podcasts, every time I open the software it attempts to download nearly 1000 episodes. I go into marketplace\downloads and cancel them all, but they keep coming back to download again. Is there a way to REALLY mark these episodes to no longer download? I basically cannot use the software at this point without taking down my internet connection for a few days and filling up a hard drive...

hmm... it's not re-downloading any of the previous ones again for me don't know why ? I ahve about 25 Podcasts and generally keep only 1 episode on each and also have some with 3 - 10 episodes saved / already downloaded... and it does not redownload them again.

It does not download all of them for me again... again not sure why.

BUT - one problem I do see is that it does not start downloading newer episodes when there are newer ones available - i the the Zune is already running

Anyone figure this out? Right now my Zune software is downloading 1185 podcasts.

The only solution I found was to downgrade to Zune 3.1 client.

That's no fun! I love the new software so that's not really an option, but thanks for the thought!
