Default [SOLVED] Nightmare zune install issue

So I excitedly purchased a 120zune a few nights ago, but the program refuses to install (I run Vista x64). I've tried everything that I've found in these boards so far (although I might simply be overlooking the fix).

My ex-girlfriend had a zune a while back and installed the program previously. Apparently, when attempting to uninstalling the program, she got an error that prevented the procedure. So she simply deleted the folder in Program Files and it won't show up in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. When I tried to install the program, I got a "This program is fully up to date" message and it'd stop there, but there was nothing zune-related on my computer that I could find to actually run the program.

I used Unzoonit, and afterwards the installation would get to "Checking for Updates..." and it'd hang right there forever. I tried disconnecting this computer from the internet (as some have suggested here), and it'd still give me the same results.

I tried downloading the 300+ mb Zune 3.1 package, and have also tried RevoUninstaller and Your Uninstaller and no matter what happens, it will still hang on "Checking for Updates...".

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated, I'm very much so excited about getting my new Zune up and running.

Try running unzoone again. Make sure everything gets deleted. I can't imagine why you'd still have problems unless you don't have all the prerequisite files, but you said you tried the 300 mb package.

When I try installing from the 300mb file for x64, it gives me this-

Imageshack - zuuuune

Slightly different then what I normally get, but it still just hangs there.

is there any firewall software that could be blocking the zune from contacting the update servers? Also, while it's checking for updates, it appears that nothing is happening. Best bet is to make sure that nothing's blocking it and to leave it there for a while.

Hmmm, I've never had that problem with anything before. I've got Windows Firewall turned off. What else is there that could potentially keep the installer from running?

My connection goes through a router, also.

Arrrgh, I just tried everything described in the first post over again, and no results.

So I suppose it's either a Firewall issue, or something I haven't been educated on yet. Aside from turning off Windows Firewall, I have no idea what else could be on my computer stopping it (the router, maybe?), but this has never been an issue with anything else before.

Which is a shame, because I'm heading on a trip for the weekend and won't have my shiny new 120zune. I'll have access to a laptop, though, and will check these boards as much as possible. I appreciate the input so far, if anyone has any idea, it'd really make my weekend!

FIXED!!

Just wanted everyone to know how I fixed this in case it happens to someone else.

Windows Installer Cleanup did the trick beautifully! I definitely recommend downloading the program and getting rid of what the other uninstaller programs could not.

I'm surprised that Windows Installer Cleanup was able to fix what unzoone couldn;t. I'm glad you got it working.
