As the title states, I need a freeware program that will work to get my purchased wma tracks to mp3 so i can put them on my zune...
I have yet to find a program that works...
SUPER couldn't even do it. Nor could Efficient WMA MP3 Converter, Free Mp3 Wma Converter or even Free M4a to MP3 Converter...,
Very frustrated...
either they crash or give errors.
I don't want to resort to pirated software...
anyone have any suggestions?
Generally, you can burn protected wma files to cd, then rip it off to computer, the DRM should be removed from the WMA files.
Or you also can use this protected wma to mp3 converter, which I use for a long time, it works flawless

it's not free. also not able to convert the whole file, only the first min or so
and I cannot get itunes to read the files zune software wont either, also Winamp crashes when trying to output to wave when I try that way....
Windows Media Player might, got to erase a rewritable cd to try...
EDIT: nope, WMP says i do not have the media usage rights to do this.... bloody hell. it cant even go download the rights... looks like it hangs or stalls or something...
I have emailed the company that runs Chooseyoursongs.com about this rights issue....

Just out of curiosity, why use chooseyoursongs.com vs a DRM-free solution like Amazon? Better price? DRM on purchased songs (not subscription services) is just an annoyance, at this point.
the tracks were "purchased" back in 2006 back when EBgames was doing their "trade in something get a card for 10 free music downloads" promotion... unfortunatly i cannot find the backup audio cd i made after the original purchase...

You need to get your PC (i.e. WMP) to be able to play the protected content, or else you are dead in the water. Is this a new PC since the music purchase in 2006? If so, the license probably did not move with it.
With other DRM schemes such as iTunes or Rhapsody, you can usually get the new PC authorized so that it can play the music there. So hopefully the vendor has a similar solution. After that's fixed, hopefully you can burn to CD and then you can transcode from that point on.

well what I did was google for the site to redownload the wma's from the store. thankfully my account info was still there along with my order history...
and yes this is a new computer. though i am puzzled as to why WMP couldnt just query the service and redownload the license... is it a vista WMP 11 problem? not sure, the last wmp used fo rthese tracks was wmp 10 on xp back in 06.

All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.
Burn to a CD then rip them from the CD, OR
Put them in Audacity and then save as mp3s.
That's the problem - batkinson001's PC isn't licensed to play them (at least going on the WMP issue) so ripping them to CD won't work.
@batkinson001 - I've had similar issues with Yahoo Music! and Rhapsody, which probably use a similar DRM setup. I usually use WMP as my guide - if the DRM'd files can play in WMP, that means DRM is working on my PC. Vista / WMP11 should not be an issue, at this point.
The vendor should have a FAQ of some kind for issues like this, but going on my experience, you might want to try this Microsoft URL:

This will individualize your system. I usually have to do that to get a new Rhapsody setup up and running on my PC.
tried the upgrade, still no luck. however unlike yesterday the little box that comes up now has information (about network congestion or something) and an error code in it (1040) saying that if the prooblem persists to contact6 them, which I have done. no reply as of yet.

The vendor's activation server could be down or overloaded, which could certainly explain the problem. DRM needs to "phone home" to activate the tracks on your PC.
