I have reinstalled it numerous times and tried everything i know! please help. By the way i have recently installed another harddrive..i dont know if this could be part of the problem..

Go to the Device Manager list.
Find the Zune in the devices.
Is there a Yellow Exclamation point or a red 'x' next to it?

Try this:

Uninstall the software
Run UnZoone (link in my sig)
Reboot
Redownload/reinstall the zune software

I have windows xp service pack 3 thanks

SO i tried the unzzone thing and redowloaded the software, then plugged in the zune and it said "found new hardware zune" after that i clicked on device manager and there was actually a yellow ! next to zune. so i clicked update or install driver...something... and it started the sending files thing and then a pop up said drivers have been installed and it came up on zune.... AND I GOT THE SAME FREAKING MESSAGE!!! then i looked at the driver installer and it said it an error had occurred. I am so freaking mad i dont even know anymore.

Now i looked at the device manager again and it says zune is working fine. I did get an application error from zune.

I am having this exact problem. I followed all the steps listed in the general help thread.

I run into a dead end when I try to go to the page to update/reset the DRM and it asks me to click 'Upgrade'. The Upgrade button is grayed out and cannot be clicked on, which I guess means its fully upgraded; but I don't have a clue what to do next.

I have used the unzoone and reinstalled multiple times and the software always crashes on start up.

I really don't want to get rid of my Zune, because its been great until just now

I'm using Vista by the way.

The weird thing is that the software actually continues to run if I don't click "close". I can manage my libraries and what not, but the software never recognizes the Zune, even though Windows does

Well I've fixed mine. I knew it was a DRM issue, but nothing could fix it, so I reinstalled windows. I had upgraded processors not long ago, and apparently that messes up DRM without a fresh windows install
