Cool How To Remove 2.5 & All Music Files For 3.0

I want to upgrade from 2.5 to the new version. The current 2.5 had really messed up everything on my Zune and I wan't to wipe it clean for the new installation. What is the best way to do this?

Thanks!!!

Good for you, that's the best way to get up to 3.0, especially if 2.5 was already buggy for you. To do so, do this:
Hold Back-Up to reset the Zune
Hold Back-Center-Left to wipe the media and firmware, Back-Center-Play on a flash memory based Zune
Use UnZoone to wipe out the software completely
Go to Zune.net | Zune.net Home to get the latest software
Once installed, connect the Zune to your computer in order to reload the firmware, music, etc.

Good luck!

Cool

Hey Locke,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, but I I'm not sure I understand <Hold Back-Up....Hold Back-Center-Left>. Are you referring to the Squircle? If so, I don't get how that would work.

Since you sound quite knowledable, my main objective is to replicate my files in WMP11 onto my Zune 80. With 3.0, would I just use WMP Synch or the Zune software? The files play fine in WMP11, but will I have to change tags to work properly in 3.0? If so, what is the best free tag editing to use?

Thanks!!!!!! Steven

Oh, well this just got 3x more complicated. Hmm..

Yes, it is on the squircle. And while I don't have an 80 or 120 to try it myself, I know it's possible because it's on a sticky here and it's worked for a lot of people.

Unfortunately, that's not possible at the moment; the Zune is as locked down as locked down could be. If you still have 2.5 on the device it's possible to use WMP 11 through some tools, btu not reccomended since you'll be left with a lot of problems and miss out on the many new features from 3.0 and beyond. As for the tags, it is likely that WMP writes ID3v2 tags, and I know that Zune uses ID3v1 tags. Now, the good news is that with a clean install the Zune software can translate them fairly well, and the software is much more dependable in the 3.0 iteration. You can use any widely available tagging software that understands ID3v1 tags if you want to, but I don't know any by name as I always use WMP or the Zune software to tag. In short, they should work fine in 3.0, but if they don't you can always do it manually, be it in the Zune software or not.
