Default Software will not Detect Zune

VERSION OF ZUNE
======================
Zune 30

VERSION OF ZUNE SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE
=====================================
2.5.400

OPERATING SYSTEM
======================
Windows XP Service Pack 3

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
=======================
My computer detects the Zune and apparently has no problems with it (I right clicked My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager and it lists the Zune under Portable Devices without a yellow exclamation mark).

Every time I plug in my Zune, the Zune software maximizes into focus, but the icon at the bottom left is still empty and reads "No Zune Connected."

THINGS ATTEMPTED SO FAR
===========================
Nothing yet ... don't want to mess anything up further.

HAVE YOU SEARCHED ONLINE/ZUNEBOARDS TO FIND A SOLUTION?
================================================== ========
Yes ... solution wasn't found.

HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY ERROR MESSAGES?
========================================
No.

ATTACHMENTS
====================
None.

I love YOU, and I love this website.

Next time any of my friends has a problem with their Zune, I'm referring them straight to here.

Thank you so much for your speedy assistance.

"Whats the problem then?"
"Bad wood."
"So what do we do?"
"Tear out bad wood. Put in new wood."

My situation is the same. Same computer OS. Same Zune sofeware. I have used unzoone numerous times and reinstalled the software from zune.net and also the zune package from microsoft.com. I am at a loss as to what else to do. I have also talked to zune support which was a total waste of time. Please help me.
The only thing I haven't tried is a hard reset. Kind of leary about doing that if software won't recognize then there will be no music on it and I won't be able to add any.... Thoughts anyone?

That's strange ...

So your computer is detecting the Zune without the yellow exclamation mark beside it, but the software isn't recognizing it?

And UnZoone didn't fix it?

I tried UnZoone twice ... the first time, I didn't get a result, but the second time, everything worked perfectly just like before.

Is your Zune unplugged while you use UnZoone?

No it is not plugged in. Seems to me that it is an issue with the 2.5 software. But, I could be incorrect. When I plug the Zune in is says connected but software does not recognize.

Default try this

first of all xp pro service pack 3 is junk lol stick with service pack 2 , uninstall your zune software(with zune unplugged) reinstall the software then plug back in the zune. it should detect it just fine, if not it might be a corrupt download which i got the 1st few times i tried to set mine up.. good luck with it

Talking Finally it worked...

Microsoft XP sp3 was the problem in my case. I had to reinstall sp3 until it completed successfully. Re-installed the zune software and it worked perfectly. Thank You so much... I had been trying to figure this out for 2 weeks and microsoft couldn't even figure out the problem. You all rock...
