please help the only firmware my zune will work with is 1.4!!!!!!

tried to install 2.3 after install I just get a black screen with a hint of light at the top and it keeps resetting.

soooo I thought lets try 2.5 and its the same thing am I the only person to get this problem?? and the monkeys on the end of the phone are about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

does anyone have any suggestions at all??

maybe you should un install the original Zune program using UnZoone, and then reinstall version 2.5
might work, might not, give it a shot.

Go look for links in gregorys sig.

They come with unzoome. Which is a great program to delete everything! from the zune software.

Do a hard reset with the buttom combo.

And then reinstall the software with the official software. Found only on Zune.net.


Don't give up on the zune just yet.

my wifes zune happily updates no problems at all. its just mine and im downloading unzoone just now will hopefully work but if not its getting a hammer taken to it.
and why oh why wont microsoft release the zune in the uk.

Anyway, update the Zune, call Zune support at 877-GET-ZUNE and tell them your Zune is only showing a black screen and you'd like to mail it into them.

nope unzoone and format and install its still wont work. the only firmware that works is 1.4 which is really annoying.

I've updated my wifes zune to 2.5 also and it worked fine. where exactly is the firmware stored on the zune?? is it chip based or on the hard drive?? because the zune after trying to install 2.3 or 2.5 clicks and gives a dark screen.

any help apart from unzoone or re-install would be very appreciated. as doing both these things does nothing for my zune.

this is what happens....

from fresh install of software after unzoone

1: I am asked to update software to 2.5 do this succesfully.

2: asked to update firmware so connect zune (nothing on zune as wiped it) device recovery mode

3:click install.... zune logo on zune it says something in white for a second then goes back to zune logo

4lease wait do not disconnect... line moves along in steps waits a second near the end and completes the line.

5:zune logo again then switches to a lighted black screen which after 20 seconds goes black windows then gives usb device connected/disconnected sound and zune resets but software says the zune is up to date.

6: zune repeats step 5 repeatedly.

so as you can see this is really annoying. and if i go back to 1.4 it works fine
I can put music on it videos pictures and so on but it wont take the new firmware.

oh and if i put my zune to my ear I can hear the hard drive clicking (zune 30 by the way)

now with SOFTWARE 2.5 my zune that wont work with anything other than 1.4 firmware is nothing more than a fancy expensive brick

The problem with my zune is not general zune software its with the FIRMWARE not SOFTWARE.
