Default Zune 2.5 Confirmation

I was working with Zune support mid-April on an issue and while waiting for the support person to do their thing we were talking. Zune is due to release a new version of the software which was given the version number of 2.5. It was due to be released at the end of the month, meaning the end of April, 2008. We did not get into firmware, so I do not know if there will be a firmware upgrade to go with the software upgrade. As for new features, we did not talk about it, but the software is to correct all current issues that we have seen.

There's no way Microsoft would back down on Zune software just to allow the device to synchronize with WMP.

Finally, some proof that they're working on the software as well. Hopefully we get some real evidence soon in the form of the actual update.

I'm not taking back anything of which I said. Until I see an official confirmation.

The intent of a message board is to share information on a particular topic of interest and what we learn along the way. An individual is free to make their own decision on what they accept or disagree with in what they read. That is what makes freedom great.

In searching the net for information on the status of the Zune software (Current and Future) post support call in mid-April, I happened on this board. In reading some of the posts, I felt an individual was being beat up a little, if you will, in sharing what they experienced on their support call and what they had learned; hence the creation of my previous post, to share what I experienced in my tech support call.

In dealing with Tier 1 and Tier 2 Zune Tech Support for about 1.5 hours a few weeks ago, I had plenty of time to engage in small talk with a couple of techs. Both had mentioned an update at the end of April which was given the version number of 2.5. As mentioned, it is to include fixes along with enhancements. I did not ask for detail as it is customary not to release any information before launch in most corporate environments. Tech support had mentioned that the new release was not in their hands at the time of my support call to play with, but based on information they had been given, in terms of enhancements, it was said that we are supposed to be able to interact with our music libraries in a new and expanded way from prior releases; read into that how you will.

To prove or not to prove is a moot point, as I am simply sharing my experience and what was told to me during my support call. My words are my proof, whether one chooses to accept them is of no concern.
Until version 2.3 pops a window up informing us of a new version, we will not know how the software will function, look, or fix current issues unless one is a member of the Zune software development team. I am not; I am simply sharing with the group what was learned on my support call, along with confirming/affirming that there is talk on a new version/update in the very near future according to those I spoke with at Zune Tech Support.

So let’s stop with the chicanery and get on with the information sharing.

Default 2.5 ready for download?

This morning I downloaded a copy of the Zune Media Collection Reset Tool from MS...on the webpage was a link to 5 other items that were most downloaded by people getting the ZMCRT...and in there was a link for Zune Client software, version 2.5 download:
Isn't this sweet, what idiocy...becuz I've never posted before I can't put in a link...well, do this, go to Microsoft (the expected first part slash downloads slash details.aspx question mark familyid equals 6136349F-2B32-4946-83B5-A09775531EF4])
Alternately go to the Microsoft Download Center and enter
Zune Client software, version 2.5
in the search box
Yes, in the Quick Details section it says Version 2.3...but everywhere else it is 2.5 so either this is a typo OR they put this in place in advance of actual availability...Whatever. If I was at work with broadband, I'd download the 175 MB and see, but I am home with my dinky dialup (cable is coming in a month or two)
Estimated download time 7 hours+. Good luck.............

I have visited the page in the past, but do not recall what the page was titled i.e. version 2.1, 2.3. Has anyone been on the page in the last month or so that can recall seeing the download version of 2.3 in the title? I did go out and look at it and indeed there is some changes to the page.

Just so you know, I downloaded the package from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

...and it did turn out to be the 2.3 software despite it saying its 2.5.
